View Full Version : Lucky # Slevin mastered at low volume?
Does anyone have to return their reciever way past normal levels when listening to this one?
The menu sounds (clicks, etc) are twice as loud as the movie. I'm not sure if I have a dud copy or not.
EDIT: This was meant to be posted in HD DVD Software! Sorry.
tundrSQ 05-16-07, 10:23 PM nopew, you got a dud. Its a great movie with a great sound track.
I also didn't notice a low dbl issue with my copy.

bad burn mostlikely.
also my copy works just fine.
Woof Woof 05-17-07, 04:14 AM On my setup, XA2 -> HDMI to Yamaha RXV2700, the menu sounds are also horribly loud compared to the rest of the soundtrack. I disable it ASAP.

are you saying he didn't?
Darrylvideo 05-17-07, 08:16 AM The copy i had of lucky # slevin did the same thing. It was the lowest audio that i have heard on a hd dvd so far. Also when watching the special features it would freeze. So i returned slevin and picked up a scanner darkly instead.
fryinpan1 05-17-07, 09:01 AM Same issue, different movie - did anyone have very low volume on Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas HD DVD?
SteroMAdMAn 05-17-07, 11:00 AM I've got the same results on my copy of Slevin. Need to turn it up about 7db. Doesn't hurt anything though...
I had this problem with the Matador. The dialog seemed to be recored at a very low level, so I had to crank up the volume to make out any of it. Very annoying!
FilmMixer 05-18-07, 03:27 AM are you saying he didn't?
He didn't... it's a bit stream, not analog audio.... if he had a bad disc, he'd hear nothing, or static, and even that would be unlikely..
We have no information on his player setup, receiver, what track he's listening too... nada.
If we get that info, maybe we can help. DD compression, etc...

I had the same problem.
So far most of the HD titles I owned(more than 100titles now),I watched about 70+ titles and feel the volumn is slightly lower than DVD and bluray. There are 2 I encountered extremely low(with default volumn at my room reference level) like Feast, Reign of fire(jap import) beside the 3 warner first released. Have Lucky#slevin but not yet watch so not sure though.
I watched it through my TV's speakers. I had to turn my TV volume up ALL THE WAY to hear the movie. I've never had to do that.

I was listening to it on my cheap student setup. ;)
Player: Xbox 360 add-on with new patch
Reciever/Speakers: Logitech Z5500 5.1
Track: English Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 converted to DTS 1.5mb over optical
All my other HD DVD's are fine volume-wise.
I rented this disc from netflix and it had the low volume issue and a lip sync issue as well. The audio and video were slightly out of sync. I have never experienced this with any other hd dvd.
PCMusicGuy 05-24-07, 12:34 PM The soundtrack is lower than my other HD DVDs but it's certainly not as low as Phantom of the Opera.
Axiom Divine 05-26-07, 06:31 PM I usually keep my receiver at about 50, but had to crank it to about 65 on this one for the equivalent.
curiousparty 05-27-07, 05:29 AM Yea, I have the same issue as well.
PRO-630HD 05-27-07, 02:30 PM All of the Wienstein films I have watched seem to have this problem. I have seen 5 of them.
wadegiles 06-01-07, 04:38 PM I just rented this movie from Blockbuster.com and it required me to set the volume about 10 dbs louder. Sounded great otherwise.
