whats the chance of best buy giving me a different title? or store credit?

bought an hd-dvd the hitcher took it back the next day cause on chapter 12 it would lock up my player. got a new copy from them exchanged played fine the first time so i decided to watch it again today about a week later and bam chapter 12 looks up the player with an error code.

its hte only dic that does it.

they dont have it in stock from what it says online and last time it did say they had it. when i exchanged it they had about 15 copys. i told them that their was a bad batch of those around maybe they pulled them :confused:

i just dont want to keep driving their and back so i rather exchange it for something else. so what the chance of them saying ok? ill even go as far as testing it on their players so they can see for themselfs!

if playing thorugh the movie someitmes it plays sometimes not. but if i go straight to chapter 12 no matter what i try it locks up the player with an error code. i own 40 hd-dvds and none do this.

and wiht gas prices being so expensive it really isnt worth it to keep driving back and forth for a $30 movie...

What firmware do you have?

If you get a guy that works for BB and in the "know" he might be able to explain the problem but it is unlikely otherwise that they would be able to swap for you.

Toshiba just released an up date that is supposed to be able to take care of this issue (even though I think its a disc issue that Universal has fixed you might want to mail it to them).

I had a problem with Children of Men not playing at all on my player and took it back. They gave me a new one and it didn't work so that one went back. When I went back, they decided to play it on one of their players and it WORKED (but it took several minutes to start). I was shocked! So the guy there talked to me and decided to let me exchange it for a different title.

So it can happen but they prefer to make the exchange for the same movie.

In my case the movie did not play at all on my player. But yours is only with one chapter.

Do you know your firmware version? Because I had a problem with Miami Vice not playing the last chapter and also displaying an error code. I sent an email through the Toshiba support site and they sent me the update disc and now it plays the last chapter.

Now, if you go back just stay calm. Don't get upset because that will just make them mad and then they'll just follow the evil rules and you will be stuck with another Hitcher disc. BE POLITE and they'll do what you want; it works every time for me.

ANY retail transaction can be refunded or exchanged with the right charisma and/or luck. many times i have had things replaced/refunded long after the warranty is due or against the return policy.

some things to consider:
1. Do not overreact to an employee. Be calm and precise. Explain your problem and ask if they can exchange. You have a much better chance since you are not asking for a refund.

2. Ask for a manager if CS cannot do the transaction. You will probably get a supervisor. Repeat Step 1. If they still cannot, ask politely to speak to the store manager. Repeat Step 1.

-Explain you are a regular customer and was always shown courtesy in solving any problems with their products.
-Do not threaten to take your business elsewhere. They dont need you as a customer.

Worst case scenario? exchange it one more time for another Hitcher. Then sell/trade the unopened on AVS! ;)

well they said they could only exchange it for the same title so i did but i asked if they had an hd-dvd display so i can test it and not be wasting gas they said yes well after they and i looked for the display and couldnt find it. they said nothing they can do for me.

so i asked for the manager he just exchanged it for another movie. i ended up getting the fountain on blu ray.i really liked the hithcher to. ill just wait until later on to pick it up again. when maybe the problem is fixed

Well at least all that hassle is over now. Did you get to choose the fountain yourself or was that the only option? I hope the prices were the same.

These kind of experiences make me not want to go to b&m store.

what hassle? most managers will be willing to help if you are courteous.

no other place can you get an item you want the minute you want it. but if youc an wait... online ordering is the way to go?

i choose to get the fountain i pretty much have everything i want on hd-dvd and blu ray. so it was a blind buy for me. not as good as hitcher imo but it was an okay movie.

oh yah and while in the magnolia store waiting for them to test it. the manager comes in. so you want to demo an hd-dvd player? let me tell you something its no better then direct tv. its only 1080 i but if you want true high def their is something else you can get if you like.

hahhahahaha i told him noi allready own an hd-dvd player just need to test this title before i go home since its my 3rd copy and his like "im sorry i take everything i said back" hahahaha

they had no hd-dvd displays.

with all this push with blu ray im AMAZED blu ray isnt selling so much more!

btw at least the fountain on blu ray played back flawlessly they had it on hd-dvd but it was a combo and $5 more i wasnt about to risk another bad title.


PLEASE UNIVERSAL GET TO PROBLEM AND FIX IT! I WANT HITCHER!!! LOL

Universal is for sure having as combo issue. My first copy of the hitcher had sound issues. The voices sounded scrachy as well as some of the music. Did a reboot same issue.

Drove to BB got another copy this time it played half way just fine but started to have audio sync issues...

I'm waiting on a 2.2 firmware disc for my A1. Hoping that will help if not the disc is going back. I hope in that time if needed BB gets a new batch that works..

But its only the universal combos disc that give me the most overall issues.

Happy feet had the lock up but it played flawless other wise. Still within 90 on that so if the 2.2 fixes that I'd be great otherwise its going to Universal. Along with childreen of men.

All my imports works which I thought would have issues or somthing. All 5 play flawless...


I wonder if any of the problom discs are combos in the UK and what issues they have. I'd be willing to pay extra for working discs...

As of now firmware versions don't matter. This is an issue with UNIVERSAL and their combos...

-It's too late now, but here's another tip for next time:
Try to return it when the customer service line is really long. Having a large line of customers behind you tends to spur the customer service rep into doing whatever you ask of them. ;)
