JL Audio Fathom f110 prices / availability?

I will be buying a sub for ht and audio 50/50 in the next month or two and I have a few questions:

Is the f110 on the market now?

Any idea of a good price for one? How does it compare to its bigger brothers, the f112 and f113?

Thanks,

Their web site says "Available 2008" with satin black being $2000 and gloss black being $2100.

It is looking like the f110 will not ship until June, 2008. :(

I'd like to know if the benefits of using two would outweigh the greater extention of one f113

Hmmm... that's a tough call... For a single seat or a large seating area?

also wondering if sound quality in the 30-60hz range will sound better, particularly on music

I guess basically I just want as much info on this thing as possible, :)

It does not extend as deep as the f112 or f113... 25 Hz is about the limit for the f110... not that this is bad for such a small sub, but stepping up to the f112 extends the LF down to 19 Hz.

F110: –3 dB at 25 Hz / 120 Hz
F112: –3 dB at 19 Hz / 150 Hz
F113: –3 dB at 18 Hz / 127 Hz

SQ in the 30-60 Hz "meat" of the sub-bass range should be very similar at normal listening levels... at very high levels, the bigger Fathoms have an advantage.

Above 80 Hz, the f110 is not quite as good as the f112 but similar to the f113. This only becomes important if your mains are limited to higher crossover points, but it bears mentioning.

I run dual f112's and I am in no way itching to upgrade any time soon. ;)

Hope that helps,

JL has them posted on their website:

http://home.jlaudio.com/products_subs.php?prod_id=374

$2,100 Satin finish, $2,200 piano gloss black.

Thanks, I found those but I guess I meant to say I can't find them for sale any where. AudioGone (used stuff) only has 12s ad 13s so the 10s seem to be trailing a bit with their release.

My dealer isn't even getting his first shipment until mid August- he didn't seem to have any real explanation from his source at JL about the delay...who knows, maybe rising fuel costs are even to blame :D Of course YMMV, but that's the approxmate arrival date at my dealer. I am just curious how much performance can be derived out of that tiny little box...

JL has put these on hold for so long. Now the F212 and Gotham (dual F113) have what JL reps have called "upgraded drivers" that offer "lower distortion" and some other jazz. My question for the JL reps is: Does the F110 come with these improvements?

wonderbread57 I thought you were going with the F112? It has quite a bit more extension and probably output too.

Mlsmith, I know you don't like to comment on products that have not been released yet, but I would really like to know the answer to wonderbread57's question too. This subwoofer was announced at CEDIA 06 and was originally expected to ship Feb 07. Since then, it's been delay after delay. Carl Kennedy's blog stated that the f110 would finally be out in July and now it's the middle of August. Can you please give us a realistic/legitimate ETA. If the f110 gets a high output version of the 10W7, the wait could be well worth it for those of us in the market for a small, high quality subwoofer.

Yes, it has been delayed several times. I can assure you that the delays all had good reasons behind them and were necessary to ensure a high level of performance from the f110. We are awaiting a few parts right now and expect to begin shipping this model in early September. Availability will be limited at first as we ramp up production, but you can expect an ample supply worldwide by late October.

It is a phenomenal little subwoofer.

Best regards, and sorry for any inconvenience our delays may have caused.

Been listening to my new f110 all weekend in a 2ch music system. I am very impressed. I've been an audiophile for 20+ years, never owned a subwoofer before now, ever. I was always prejudiced against using them in 2ch. My ignorance, and my loss.

I'm building a surround sound system, and the sub was the first thing I decided on and bought. Still not sure what else I am going to buy yet. I found that it does a great disappearing act, can't really tell its there except that the music is fully fleshed out in the bottom end. The f110 is very musical. It never draws attention to itself. My main speakers together with the f110 reminds me a lot of the full range floorstanding Meridian powered speakers. The kick drums have impact and I can always follow the bass guitar line, no matter how loud the rest of the instruments/vocals are, the kick/bass are no longer faint and in the background. I now find myself turning down the volume, where as before I might turn it up to hear the bass notes more.

I did briefly hook it up to my Pio Plasma's subwoofer out jack, used only the TV's speakers and the f110 b/c thats all I have now. My room is only 16x19 but it has a 14 foot ceiling for most of the room, thats a lot of volume to fill for a 10 inch subwoofer and the little guy is up to the task, it can fill it up will deep low articulate bass and sub-bass and the heat sinks were luke warm at best after 1 hour of Dave Matthews. I can almost get away with just adding the sub to my TV to enjoy a lifelike concert performance.

I am getting a 2nd f110 for my music system. The only subs I've ever heard that can do a good high end system justice cost $5k, until I heard the f110.

PS: Ive never heard the f112 or f113 so I can't compare, obviously the bigger brothers get down lower and deeper and with more impact, but at 115, 130lbs I was not willing to find out. the f110 weighs 67lbs so it can be moved around if needed.

How large is your room? I have a pretty small room, (about 1500 cubic feet), and am wondering if the F110 is enough.

How large is your room? I have a pretty small room, (about 1500 cubic feet), and am wondering if the F110 is enough.my room (apartment living room) is medium size, approx. 16ft X 17ft.

This is the second sub I've owned, I had an Energy S8.3 previously for the last like four years, it has provided very good performance for an 8-inch model ($350.00). So I'm just becoming more knowedgeable in this area.

My system consists of:
NAD T175 surround processor
Parasound Halo amp (250W X 5)
Monitor Audio GS-Series speakers (GS-60 fronts, GS-LCR), Energy RC-R rears
Denon DVD 3930CI
Denon 3800BDCI
Poneer Elite BDP-05FD
Oppo DV-980H
Pioneer PDP-4280HD Kuro display
Furman Elite 15PF-i Power Conditioner

The F110 is noticeably more dynamic and clean. Also more articulate. For example, I watched the SD-DVD version of "Tropic Thunder", man what an explosive soundtrack. This film provides a great exercise for any sub or system, it has a variety of explosion/bomb scenes, also quite a range of music. A few of the overhead (airplane view) shots where bombs are being dropped on a village literally shook the roof like I've never experienced before (actually my upstairs neighbors started walking around:D). In another scene an explosion sends a metal drum container flinging through the air right towards your lap hitting the fore-ground with a huge metal-like "bonk" sound, very realistic.
