I have a Sanyo 42" Plasma TV #DP42746 and I have been doing a lot of reading between LCD and Plasma TV's and I have read that Plasmas display black and grey better than LCD's. With my plasma, everything seems too black and all the blacks blend together and it looks like crap. I have to turn the brightness all the way up to distinguish the different blacks. Is this normal? I play an X-Box 360 on this plasma hooked up with HDMI (and I have used component cables as well) and some games with the brightness all the way up the blacks still blend together. Same goes for DVD's. Should I lean more toward an LCD for it being brighter or is this just my Plasma?

Look at your settings. Most plasmas have a black level adjustment somewhere in the user menu that will allow you to lighten or darken the blacks. If you don't have any detail in the black areas you need to lighten the setting. If you can't figure it out try calling customer service, they may know something or have a firmware upgrade that could take care of the problem.

Good luck with your Sanyo. You got a very inexpensive unit that is pretty unproven in the industry, I hope it works out for you. I have a Panasonic plasma that I could not be happier with and Panasonic does provide the glass for Sanyo plasmas but all the innards are strictly Sanyo.
