Hello everyone,

First let me say that I have been a loyal lurker  for several years now. I always come here to keep up with my HD questions. I hope someone here has some good advice for me or perhaps a solution...

On to the issue.... Tonight after getting off at work I turned on my Zenith C32V22 and all seemed normal. I went into the kitchen and heard a noise and wasn't sure where it came from...it sounded like something metal falling off a wall. I thought nothing of it as I live in an apartment and noises of the strange kind occur all the time. I sat down with my dinner to watch a baseball game and my tv was off. I didn't think much about it and proceeded to hit the on button at the tv itself. All of a sudden I heard a very loud noise like my tv just exploded and then off the tv went again. While that was occurring I ran to unplug it...but didn't make it in time. I didn't notice any strange smells, but now the tv refuses to turn on... it buzzes for a second makes a few other noises it always had made and turns right back off. I tried unplugging for a few hours and tried it again. Still nothing but the same.

Does anyone have any suggestions? My father knows a little about fixing simple issues in CRTs. However, is it worth even opening up? If he can't fix it, is it worth taking to the shop? I paid about $1200 many years ago and would rather not shell out the same for a new tv.

If I do need to purchase, does anyone have any suggestions on a cheap but good HDTV? I would rather have a CRT (if widescreen a 37"). However, I don't have a problem with going to an LCD or similar. I'm not familiar with them so I'm looking for the best bang for the buck. $$ is important at this time as I'm about to buy a house, ring and just bought a car....and my job is not paying up to par.

Any advice would be appreciated.... thanks

Dan

Any ideas before I throw this sucker out? I haven't been out looking yet for a replacement, but it looks like I'm going the way of the LCD (more on my budget). :( I really liked my CRT.
