Hey guys,

I have the AVIA disc and am having trouble adjusting the contrast on my Panasonic PT-AE900U projector. I'm using the "Steps Pattern" - don't remember exactly what it's called, I'm not at home right now - but it's the pattern with the boxes, at the top of the screen, that step down from white to black. In this pattern the top half of the screen is dark and the bottom is white. There are two verticle bars to the right that overlap both sections of the screen.

The problem I am having is that no matter how adjust the contrast, I do not see the bottom half of the verticle bars... the portion that overlaps the white section of the screen.

Is there some other setting that I have to adjust or turn off in order to see it? Or is this normal and I should only use the Steps at the top to adjust Contrast?

I also don't see a lot of difference when I ajust the Sharpness setting. Is that normal?

Thanks for you help guys.

This method is for CRTs only.

For digital displays you look for thresholding. That's when an increase in contrast results in an inability to distinguish pure white (100IRE) from slightly less than pure white (98IRE)

I guess I will have to read more up on "thresholding" but is there a specific pattern or other tool I should be using on AVIA to do this?
