That TV right there. I see it go between $1300-$1500 online. It seems this TV is too good to be true. I'm looking to upgrade from my 30" Samsung Slimfit TV to a 50" TV and usually a good 50" set is around $2200 it seems. But, this thing supports even 1080p (granted, through HDMI only, but that's cool with me!). So, what's the problem with this TV? I refuse to believe such a great 50" TV that's not a projection set can be under $1500 unless there is something wrong with it.....so, what's the opinion of you guys on this set?

This tv is a rptv, But I would not let that stear you away, I have a 50A2020 Sony SXRD and to my eyes it looks better then the Sony 1080p V-series flat panels. This is not your regular LCD rptv it's a LCOS RPTV, BIG diffrence.

Look up the major green blob problems that the xsrd displays have, I really wanted to get that tv also, and still cant decide what I want. A 1080p. 50 inch plasma would be nice but the new panny must have some bugs- being first generation and all....yada yada...The sony price really came down , I remember seeing the 50" set for 3000.00 and I was waiting for the price drop cuz I really like the picture.

Oh, I didn't know it was a rear projection TV. Well, the only beef I have with those, outside of replacing lamps, is viewing angle. How's the viewing angle on this TV? I love how DLPs can be viewed from any angle and have a vivid image, so I don't want to rid myself of that.

The SXRD's also have a very wide viewing angle.

Why is it so afforadble? Because it's an old, discontinued model. This was the 1st generation SXRD, and I believe it does not accept 1080p input, even over HDMI. And yes, there were green blob issues with that model, which have been largely fixed with later models.

You can buy the KDS-50A2020 for $1600/1700 as well...that will have less problems with green blob and will actually accept 1080p over HDMI as BillP noted that the xbr1 does not accept 1080p period. 60" A2020 can be found for around $2,100...that is the best TV to buy for the money.

new member to the forum -- could you tell me where you found the KDS-50A2020 for $1600/1700? Was it from a "Authorized Sony Online Retailer" or doesn't that matter? Somebody told me that if you don't get it from one of them (read higher prices) that Sony won't honor the warranties...

Thanks for the help!
