What is the suggested way to add a sub to a 2 channel environment given the limitations below?
I have a Jolida SJ302A amp, 2 Onix ref 1 monitors, and a Velodyne sub. The source component is a Denon 2910 CDP
The Jolida is an integrated amp. Because there is no preamp in the mix, I cannot use the line inputs on the sub from the CDP because there would be no volume control for the sub. This also means I cannot use the sub's internal crossover to filter out the lows before they go to the amp and the speakers. Oh well.
This makes my choices direct connect the subs speaker level inputs to the amp speaker terms, or connect the sub's speaker level inputs to the actual speaker terminals. I'm not sure which config is correct, or if it makes any difference at all.
Your input appreciated.

CDP > Jolida integrated > Velo sub speaker level inputs > Velo sub speaker level high-pass outputs > Onix speakers. The sub's internal crossover will filter the lows from the Onyx speakers according to the Velo's crossover settings (assuming it has this capability). Unless, of course, you want to run the Onyx speakers full range. In that case, simply wire the sub's speaker level inputs and the speakers themselves in parallel to the Jolida speaker terminals.

Thanks for the response - the velo has no speaker level outputs only speaker level inputs. I'll go with your second suggestion - which is pretty much the way I have it now. Thanks.

I had the same issue with my two channel set up. My set up is Onix Ref2 speakers, Onix sp-3 integrated amp and a CD player. It was pretty simple for me as I had an older NAD 2 channel preamp of good quality unused and stored away. I simply split the signal from the output of the CD player with "Y" spliter. The signal was split between the Onix SP-3 and the NAD preamp. The Onix fed my Onix Ref 2s and the NAD fed the subwoofer. It was also nice this way because I could independently control the bass output through the NAD. If you don't have a extra decent preamp just sitting around I would imagine that you could find a used on online for affordable amount.

FWIW, I have settled on running speaker level inputs from the speakers themselves into the speaker level inputs of the sub. Works great.

That's one of the ways the original 2.1 sat/sub system had to be wired. Actually now, I run wires in parallel from the amp to the sats and subs.

Question: I have the Bose Acoustimass 5 Series III Speaker System. It has speakers and a sub woofer. My Yamaha receiver outputs the left and right audio lines to the subwoofer, and the subwoofer goes out to the two speakers. So it is not true surround sound (no center speaker).
Question: when I change channels on my tv the sound goes up or down dramatically. I have to keep adjusting the volume on my Yamaha. This did not happen previously when I just used the TV audio. Any suggestions? Oh ya, and Yamaha is connected directly to my cable box for sound, bypassing the tv itself.
One more thing: sometimes the volume will even decrease when I simply hit the "Guide" button my DVR remote, bring up the tv guide menu. I also programmed the DVR remote to work with the Yamaha receiver, and wonder if that is related to the problem.
