I'm looking at purchasing a RPTV for my livingroom. The TV size is limited to 55-60" by personal preference (my wife told me so :D ).

I currently have 42" panny plasma 600u and it does great in the following areas.

1) PQ with Time Warner Digital Cable. The best I've seen on a HDTV showning SD content

2) Datail in the blacks - The Matrix and AVP are actually viewable.

3) Bold colors without bleeding

4) Sharp HD picture with 1080i input

The TV I'm looking for will be used for all TV viewing, (news, prime time TV, HBO movies (1080i), Discovery (1080i) and blueray/HD DVD (1080p) purchased later).

Seating distance will be ~10 feet from the screen. This is a living room so there will be some glare from the windows.

Which RPTV in this size range has good overall performance in these areas?

You need to go to the stores and narrow it down a bit. Are you leaning toward DLP, LCD, or LCOS RP technology? All are excellent options, and nobody can tell you which is best for you.

I was more looking for the opinion of folks that have a TV in this size range that can comment about how satisfied they are in the areas the I mentioned as important to me.

I have no preference on which technology provides the performance.

is there a FAQ thread on the strong points and weak points for DLP, LCD and LCOS technhology. I know about the rainbow effect on DLP which I've never seen so its not an isse for me.

I had a LCD Flatscreen (Sharp Aquos32") and was dissipointed with its PQ on SD broadcast channels. I almost gave up on HD until everything was broadcast in HD, but my friend at work kept raving about his plasma so I got one. I got the Panny 42" 600U and was blown away by the PQ on SD and HD channels compared to the LCD. That was for the master bedroom.

I'm ready for a bigger HD screen for the living room. I'm looking for the same thing especially SD channel performance since we'll be stuck with that for at least the next 5 years.
