hey guys...i am looking to see if I can expect to reliably pick up OTA HD in my area....I have tried it up till now with a Terk Indoor directional antenna but its suuper sensitive (it seems) and I have had mixed results with it:

* yellow - uhf WTIC-DT 31.1 FOX HARTFORD CT 0° 12.7 31
* yellow - uhf WVIT-DT 30.1 NBC NEW BRITAIN CT 0° 12.5 35
* yellow - uhf WEDH-DT 45 PBS HARTFORD CT 0° 12.7 45
* red - vhf WEDY-DT 6 PBS NEW HAVEN CT FCC Ext 220° 15.2 6
* red - uhf WFSB-DT 3.1 CBS HARTFORD CT 9° 17.4 33
* red - vhf WTNH-DT 10.1 ABC NEW HAVEN CT 246° 11.5 10
* blue - uhf WCTX-DT 59.1 MNT NEW HAVEN CT 246° 11.5 39
* blue - uhf WUVN-DT 18.1 UNI HARTFORD CT 9° 17.3 46
* violet - vhf WTXX-DT 20.1 CW WATERBURY CT 0° 12.7 12
* violet - vhf WWLP-DT 22.1 NBC SPRINGFIELD MA 19° 38.9 11

As far as the lay of the land goes, I live in a condo complex so I probably cant put anything on the roof. Here are acouple pics of my unit, an end unit:

So it is a 3 story building but I have all 3 stories, and it is surrounded by simlar 3 story buildngs but the one behind me (down the grassy hill) starts about 1 story lower (and thus its roof isnt as high as mine) and the building in across from me is about 30-40 feet away. One of the reasons I think I have been having so much trouble is because that wall of 3 windows on the end of the bldg faces almost directly south and according to what is above....the towers are almost due north. The signals I have been able to get so far have been largely by putting the terk in the little sticket outywindow above the garage, pointed as close to due north as I can, and pretty high up to clear that tree.

Is there any kind of indoor, or subtle outdoor (that I could mount on one of my balconies) antenna that will get me decent OTA HD coverage?

Problem is you have a mix of uhf and vhf channels, I suggest you start in the local reception forum to see what others around you are using for reception.

Connecticut is not easy because of the mixture of directions and both VHF and UHF stations.

Can you put antennas in the attic?

I'd consider a small VHF only for ABC on channel 10 aimed at New Haven such as:
http://www.solidsignal.com/prod_display.asp?PROD=Y5-7-13

For UHF aimed north, a four bay UHF only such as the CM 4221:

Use the CM 0549 to add them together.

This is not designed to get WWLP, WTXX, or WCTX.

If you want WTXX, use a medium sized all channel antenna instead of the 4221 and get a channel 10 Jointenna to add the WTNH signal. The downside is it's bigger and more expensive. Adding WCTX would require two all channel antennas, a splitter for the New Haven antenna, and Jointennas for channel 10 and 39.
