Hey guys, I just bought an Onkyo HT-SR800 home theater in a box solution.
After hooking it up, I have 2 problems.
First, I cannot turn the volume very high without the receiver shutting down. According to the book, this occurs when the "Amp protection circuit" is activated. Their only solution is to disconnect the power for one hour. I have tried that but still no luck.
My second problem is, the center channel and front right speakers have extremely low volume. All the other speakers work loud and properly except these 2. I have tried manually adjusting their volume, but even at maximum adjustment it still cannot match the other speakers. I can barely hear ANY dialogue from the center channel. Also, after making adjustment to the individual speakers, the receiver still goes into protect mode 90% of the time.
Now, I should mention that the problem started when I replaced the speaker wire. Originally, the system came with very thin speaker wire. When I first received the system, I hooked it all up and just put a song on it (not at maximum volume, but relatively loud). It wasn't having any problems then. Since then I have bought thicker, 16 gauge wire for my front 3 speakers. However, I have tried disconnecting the newer wire, but the receiver still goes into protect mode!
Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks!
