I just bought a new HD tuner that has optical audio and HDMI out, but no coax and I don't have any more optical inputs on my receiver.

Does anyone sell (or is it possible to make) a cable that can covert HDMI to a coax digital audio output? Or is it somthing that would require an active box to format convert?

if your receiver has coax digital input:

consider an optical to coax audio adapter (optical In >spdif coax digital out)

common device cost about $20.00

I would second that recommendation as it is much cheaper. Extracting audio from the HDMI stream requires a good bit of electronics, and thus won't be very cheap.
