Do the drivers wear out? Even if in perfect condition do subs "expire" after a certain number of years?

I'm interested in buying a used Sunfire Signature Sub and am wondering if that's a smart move.

Thank you

this is a hard question

the obvious answer is yes but you never know what kind of "use" the sub has had

one more thing, i would never buy a used sub from someone like me :D

but i have bought nice used speakers from a person i knew who was the first and only owner of them and he lived in an apartment so i know he could never really abuse them

Aside from the issue of abuse (caveat emptor applies there), the parts should last a long time. Drivers, per se, are unlikely to wear out, but surrounds eventually do. They are relatively inexpensive to replace, though. I've had surrounds last over 25 years, and amps at least that long.

So, if they are in "perfect condition" and haven't been abused, it can be a good gamble, although, as with anything used, something unexpected can occur and you have no warranty protection.
