I hava a large room which is 24 x 16.5. I am considering putting a wall up and dividing the room into 2, one for a theater and one for a pool table. What is the minum width for the theater. If I made the theater 10-12 wide I can place the seating area so I am viewing up to 16 ft. For seating I would consider 2 rows 2 seats each, or 2 love seats. I would like a screen size in the 120" size. I can enter on the wall I would build which would be alog one of the 16 ft walls. Is 10 ft to narrow? I want it to be comfortable but not use more space than I need so I can have enough room for a pool table.

any comments are appreciated. I am open to all ideas.

Thanks

Scrap the pool table idea and go for the whole room as your HT then you can go even bigger with your screen :D My two cents since im not a big pool player

It depends on what you are looking for.

If you are looking at a projector and big screen (80-100" wide), 16.5' depth on an HT would be ok for one row of seats at about 13' viewing distance, IMHO. 10-12' wide, you are looking at 3 home theater recliners wide. If this is a TV/movie watching room for two people, this might be fine.

I agree with the previous post, however. 24x16 is a great size for a home thater. Put the screen on the 16.5' wall. Two rows of home theater recliners at ~13' and 18', maybe a bar and bar stools behind that.

It comes down to this:
1) how many people do you want to be able to watch movies with you.
2) how much do you want it to look like a 'real theater'
3) how much do you like pool.

What you need is a pool table that you can lower from the ceiling on cables into the space between the front row and the screen when you aren't watching movies. The legs fold up as it's pulled up. Put 2" absorbent material on the bottom of the pool table and you've got your first reflection points on the ceiling handled as well...

If you are in a basement, you could excavate and have it rise up out of the floor. That would be cool. Not extremely practical, I admit. Plus somebody will probably put a pool cue through your expensive screen.
