Hey everyone, the past couple days ive been using these forums along with a few other's trying to fix the issue of having my 26HF85 cut off about an inch of the screen while in 720p Display mode. I combined a bunch of information and i wished i could of found it all in one place, so i'm going to post it here. This will be especially for Xbox 360 users such as myself who need to see text while in games that are cut off.

I also believe this guide works for the 30HF85 (mabye? 30 inch version of this tv) so try using it as well =)

Just a warning to begin with, this guide involves going into the Service Menu of your TV and could screw it up beyond repair, so DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK.

So this all started when I was on my 360 Playing the Halo 3 Beta, i've had this problem happening to me ever sense i got my Xbox 360, but it didn't cut off text that you need to see until now. Here are some screenshots. (sorry for bad quality, cell phone)

--Edit-- This board wont let me post images until i have 5 posts so if this topic gets bigger ill post them

as you see there is a bunch of the screen cut off.

ok ok lets go on with how to fix this.

first we have to enter the service menu, to do this turn the volume all the way down to 0. Press and hold the TV's front panel volume down button, and then press and hold the remote's "9" button for about a second. Just hold it down and you should see some yellow boxes on the sides of the screen, this is how you know your in it. Change item with the chanel button up and down. Change value for an item with the volume button up and down. - Note this information is not from myself, but another forum (cant post it here) I just re-wrote it.

I went over to H-Size (i think selection 6 or 7) and shrank it from twenty somthing to about ten. So you should now be seeing the right side of the screen show a large black box. Go back down to H-Position (i think 3 or 4) and center it so you dont see black boxes anymore on either side. You may need to fine tune these values and im assuming if your reading this you should be able to calibrate it yourself.

After this was done it looked great, here are some screenshots (again, sorry for bad quality, cellphone pictures)

--Edit-- Again, this board wont let me post images until i have 5 posts so if this topic gets bigger ill post them

so over all, i hope this guide can help anyone who has the same issues that I had and save them alot of time. Like i said i spent about 3 or 4 days researching this.

Enjoy!

Did it have this problem in 1080i mode? If not, why aren't you using 1080i for everything? It's the TV's native(and best looking) resolution.

the color is terribly disfigured every time you try to move in 1080i and the screen gets pretty dark also. pretty much unplayable at 1080i. besides from what ive been hearing progressive scan is better for gaming and most xbox 360 games are made for 720p so instead of upscaling i play the game in its native mode.

The tv can't display 720p. All it's doing is converting 720p to 1080i. The only time this tv displays a progressive scan picture is in 480p.

What you are doing is basically choosing if you want either your 360 to upscale to 1080i, or if you want the TV to upscale to 1080i. You are choosing the TV.

I believe that the TV only upscales to 1080i if it is getting a signal of 480i/p form what i understand. and I know that it isnt the xbox that has problems upscaling to 1080i beacuse my friends TV is fine doing it, so its the TV that can't handle the 1080i signal from the xbox.

right, I'm just saying that the TV can only display either 480p or 1080i. If you set the xbox to 720p, it gets upconverted to 1080i. There is no CRT HDTV that can display 720p, only monitors.
