I'm in the process of building a home theater setup around my plasma TV and need some recomendations on a decent powered sub for my setup. I need to get the most bang for the $$ and wanted some expert advice. :D I'm trying to use most of my current audio gear (old school Pioneer receiver and LG home theater speakers) and basically just want to add a sub for now. My Pioneer receiver has what appears to be a single digital sub woofer pre-out on it and I would like to find a sub that supports this that doesn't break the bank. My room size is large though. Any help in the right direction would be much appreciated.

You might want to start by reading this forum. Then you would need to provide more info: actual room dimensions, budget, listening preference, equipment model numbers, etc. GL

My room is a 30'x30' but my AV stuff is over to one side of that. As far as budget, I'd like to keep it no more than $400. My Pioneer receiver is a model VSX-D606S. I've been reding here on the forums (I joined last Sept.) but most of the subs I see listed don't have the single digital imput so that's why I'm posting. I'm hoping someone here can recommend a sub in my price range that supports this imput and has decent bass.
Thanks

Your room is very large for any sub in that price range. WAG is over 7200 cuft - not counting openings. It might work nearfield but otherwise your definition of "decent" needs further explanation on your part. You might also go to the DIY section and post your question there.

I doubt your receiver has a digital sub output. It is more likely an regular analog RCA type output which almost any sub will accept.

The best bang for the buck in that price range is probably the SVS PB10-NSD. Depending on your loudness needs, what you like to listen to, and your taste, that may or may not be adequate for your needs in that big of a space. You can always add a second sub down the road if you find you need more bass loudness.

SVS PB10-NSD

seconded. I've been reading for 3 days and can't find a better value.

With that size of a room, I'd save more $$ before getting a sub or investigate the DIY route. Either that or plan on an upgrade in the future, though that's par for the course in this hobby...
