If You're On the Fence About Calibrating... I purchased a Mits 57831 display about six months ago and was on the fence about whether it would be worth the cost to get my set calibrated. I finally broke down and had my display calibrated by Eliab of Avical during his recent tour and all I can say is that for me it was well worth the cost. Blacks are better without being crushed, whites are whiter without clipping and colors are more realistic, while still vibrant. My biggest surprise is that my picture is brighter, despite some comments I had read about a calibrated picture being "dark." I also have a Toshiba XA2 HD-DVD player and the colors on the DVD player improved more than the colors from my cable source.

Anyway, I debated about professional calibration for a long time, but now I would recommend it to anyone who wants to get the best picture that their display is capable of producing. Eliab spent a great deal of time calibrating my display and definitely knows his stuff!

Greetings

Some do ... some don't.

(I give my customers a 1 year redo warranty if their TV breaks and needs repair. I don't pay for their repairs ... and they have nothing to do with me. But I will come back and respec their tV after the repair work.)

HAve to ask your person if he offers such a service.

How much does a professional calibration usually cost?

Greetings

How much depends on what display type you have and what you ask to have done.

Base recommended pricing from the ISF is along the following lines:

CRT tube set ... $225

Plasma/LCD Flat Panel ... $250

Rear Projection TV (CRT/LCD/DLP/LCOS) ... $275

FPTV ... $325

The above costs include the calibration of one grayscale for one input type.

Additional inputs are charged out at $125 per input signal type.

So if you had a RPTV and you wanted both the DVD input and the HD cable box properly calibrated, then it would be $275 + $125 = $400.

The above are just recommended prices. Individual calibrators are free to charge what ever they want ... usually in line with what the market will bear.

Some do package pricing and include all input types into one lump sum cost. $400 for a Pioneer Elite plasma for instance ... which can include just one grayscale or 10 separate ones. Still the same price.

Negotiations are also possible when it comes to talking price.

Thanks for your kind words! You're system definitely had room for improvement. I'm very happy to have had the opportunity to show you how much more it had "under the hood." :)

Happy viewing!

Our fees are right on our website. Our packages are all inclusive. In other words, they include the calibration of every input type and scan rate used. :)
