View Full Version : Downloadable Blu-Ray trailers for PS3?
ckenisell 05-22-07, 11:26 AM Why is it that Sony, that biggest Blu-Ray supporter, has had the exact same Blu-Ray movie trailers available for download from the PS3 store since the PS3's release?
Every time I start up my PS3, I go to the store to see if any additional trailers have been added. What's up with that? House of Flying Daggers? Click? Black Hawk Down? Come on Sony. They need to really get their marketing department in gear.
They have POTC 3 movie trailer available for download. Why not Blu-Ray release trailers? POTC 1 & 2 would be great trailers. Apocolypto. Casino Royale. Ghost Rider. Stomp the Yard. Catch And Release. Dreamgirls. Deja Vu. Night At The Museum. Tony Bennett: An American Classic. Identity. The Pursuit Of Happyness.
thanks..I didnt even know we can do that..I just got it a week ago..
I wonder the same thing... but just to let you know they update the store on Thursdays... so no need to check everyday ;).

Spot on, seems with all of the TV spots for the Pirates on BD they would have at least put that out there.
JR Bryce 05-22-07, 12:33 PM I've been complaining about this since the beginning of February when I got my system. Sure, at first I chalked it up to being so early in the lifespan of the system, but now it's just downright depressing. I mean, in the scope of the store, blu-ray trailers are the LEAST of things that are lacking, but since it's widely accepted that the PS3 is why blu-ray is doing better than HD-DVD, you would think Sony would step it up. A complete lack of effort on their part.
Jonathan Hickey 05-22-07, 12:41 PM That's why I download the trailers from Quicktime's website since they are in 1080p. Then I convert them to a mp4 file and put them on my PS3 via a flash drive. I am up to over 50 trailer from all of the studios.
I agree.
They need to REALLY start updating the HD content.

Have you seen Sony's Connect Music website? Its a joke compared to Apple. The difference between Sony vs. Apple and Microsoft is that Sony seems to curtail to the high net worth individual, that's why their TV's and the PS 3 are sexy looking? They figure that Mr. Richy Rich likes the gloss and ignores the smaller details in the event thier product fails, they buy another one. Apple and Microsoft curtail to the smaller $ individuals, that's why in terms of unit sales they are kicking Sony's rear end.
The only thing that is saving CEO Stringer is the stock price, at $59.63, its up a lot since the start of the PS3 back in November, however Sony's lifetime high in its stock price was $150 during 2000. Today it has gained $2.5 per share, a lot of that is due to the fact that the blu ray format and some players will see a big spike in sales increases from the 2 Pirates of the Carribean blu ray disks, Disney and Sony will make a windfall for that. By the way, it has been announced that the gaming division will produce a loss of $400 Million this year for Sony.

What is the difference of the theatrical trailers for Casino, Ghost Rider, Pursuit of Happyness in 1080P vs. a BD trailer?
Also you can get POTC 1&2 trailers from the Japanese Store.
Jiffylush 05-22-07, 01:11 PM There are now 1.5 million registered users for the PSN, that is 1.5 million BD players that could be buying and watching more movies right now. Definitely an area where BD should be able to pick up sales.

I've tried this with no luck. Can you share your process with me? I'm on OSX

They should but will they? My attach rate is not the norm. 93 titles for my one BD player, the PS3.

If you have Quicktime Pro, just export the clip using MP4 and Pass Through for video.
Works like a charm.
Delta_FX 05-22-07, 06:05 PM I've got about 30 1080p trailers on my PS3. Some from my PS3, and the rest from the Apple Trailers and Yahoo Movies websites.
This is the Deja Vu trailer in 1080p, which I got from Yahoo Movies. Running on a Sony Bravia 46" XBR2.

This is what I do...
By the way, you need Quicktime Pro to Save/Export files.
Load up your trailer(480p,720p,1080p.)
File > Save, should take about 2 minutes. Save to desktop.
Once that's done...
File > Export. Choose "Movie to MP4" under Export. Click Options...
File Format: MP4.
In the drop down box, choose Video.
Video Format: Pass Through.
Everything under should be grayed out.
Click OK.
Under Use, choose Most Recent Settings.
Click Save, should take about 2 minutes. Save to desktop.
Once that's done...
Transfer to PS3.:) Should work fine, with no audio/video loss!
Any questions, PM me.
Delta_FX 05-22-07, 09:30 PM Thx Delta !!
Did it work? I want to make sure I didn't mess up on my instructions.
Mr. Cinema 05-22-07, 10:37 PM I'm gonna upgrade to Quicktime Pro. I have got to save a copy of that spiffy new Transformers trailer.
scarycall 05-23-07, 07:40 AM You actually don't need to upgrade to quicktime pro if you want a free and easy solution.
YAMB (http://yamb.unite-video.com/)
Simple steps to follow:
1. Download fatty 1080p trailer from Apple Movie site...
2. Use YAMB and Mux .avi file into .mp4 file (it's the first tab)
3. Watch as it churns for about 30 seconds
4. Chuckle as it gives you a false error message about failing (track3)
5. Copy .mp4 to your ps3 and Holy Shizzle! that's some crisp video
6. Make video icon for above video at just the right point in the trailer
7. Sit on your couch, drunk and stupid while watching the vertical icons play
Enjoy, especially that last part :D
ckenisell 05-23-07, 10:19 AM Thanks for posting methods of converting quicktime to a Sony format. However, I really don't care for trailers (even in HD). I'm mostly interested in seeing Sony get off their marketing asses and get some BD trailers available for download. My concern is not focussed directly on the lack of content, it's the higher level of a lack of a smart marketing plan that needs to be addressed.
anavrin0901 05-23-07, 11:07 AM If I only had Quicktime Pro :(

I tried those settings but its not working. What am I doing wrong? I used the 100MB Rush Hour 3 trailer, after the export it givesme 15MB file. The only thing is I can't seem to changed the Data Rate to "leave Empty" as you put it. It will only save if there is a number in there.

Edit: I messed up on my other settings, I'm not sure why Quicktime said that I had those settings. Sorry for the mess up, my mistake.
Settings should look like this:

I just tried this out with The Bourne Ultimatum 1080p trailer, it worked fine.
But, don't bother with converting Rush Hour 3. Even though when you do convert it and put it on the PS3, towards the end of the trailer, it will freeze up and give you a "The data is corrupted" error. So, don't bother with it, because it will not work. I've tried this on 3 PS3's and 1 Xbox 360, and all give an error.
This is the only trailer I've had problems with. All other trailers work though.
HiddenDepth 05-23-07, 11:18 PM EDIT: i solved the problem.
i just had to save the trailer on my desktop before i start to convert :)
