I picked-up ~1000 LPs for $25 and now have alot of cleaning to do :). Being cheap (actually not being rich), I'm planning a DIY record cleaning machine. Several people have posted step by step build plans, but I'm not clear about the vacuum pickup.

1) How close should the vacuum pickup be to the LP? Should the velvet that will surround the vacuum slot touch the LP?
2) Is there anything that I should look for to adjust the vacuum pickup properly?

Any insight would be appreciated.
