Hi, I am new to this forum, and hoping to get some insight on the following; I am finising a dedicated bsmt area, light controlled, (in other words next to no light) and am down to 2 pj choices; the Sanyo Z5 and the Optoma HD7100... (throw range wont be an issue, as I can mount either in required distance)... I realize that this is a DLP vs LCD thing, but the prices are now so close, the 7100 being only 500 more, that I'm thinking it would be worth going the extra $.... the thing is, a "shootout" review on PC feauring the H79 (which is pretty much the same as the 7100, dark chip 3, 250W bulb specs etc...) comes to the conclusion they are more less "equal" as far as perfomance.... at the time of writing the review, the Optoma was still significantly more $ than the Z5... the point was that LCD was practically just as good, so therefore hard to justify the higher price point of DLP etc.... now that that has changed, which is the better way to go? I've read quite a few quality issues on the 7100, the Z5 seems to be better that way... I would appreciate any advice ...(especially since i dont get to actually try these out first)...Thanks!!

The price difference is entirely subjective and only you know what $500 means to you. To some, it's grocery money while to others, it's a few nights out on the town money. If $500 isn't too big a deal for you, then you can rest assured that you're getting a better projector for the difference. Up until a few months ago, the HD7100 was in an entirely different league than the Z5...for a reason.

What's the reason?
