I'm not sure if I'm in the right forum for this. If not, tell me where to go please.
I have recorded some high def programs from OTA and from Cable via QAM using Vista Media Center. Also used Aver Media Center to do the same thing. I'm using an Avermedia M780 ePCI Combo card. I later decided to burn those recorded shows to DVD using Vistas DVD Maker. When I play them on my DVD player I get great video, but no sound. I have ffdshow installed now and still get the same problem. Also get this problem when I try and pipe the recordings from the HTPC to a Media PLayer connected to my LCD TV. I'm thinking I messed up the codecs when I installed some other software. Which software is anyones guess. I'm new to this whole HDTV recording thing and am trying out lots of different software. Maybe one of the media centers I installed overwrote the codecs? Or installed one that causes a conflict. I know that the Aver Media Center uses a codec that is not available on my DVD player (can't rememebr which one, but Avermedia told me which one and Sony verified that it's not available on thier player)
Is there a way to determine which codec is used by Vista Media Center and which is used when Windows DVD Maker records it to DVD? And more importantly...can you change that codec? I'm asking how...not just if it's posible...LOL
KISS, please. I'm very new to this stuff.
Thanks a bunch if you have any advice!
