View Full Version : Is either Mass Effect or Bioshock coming out before September?

You would think with Halo 3 coming in September, and GTA in October, and everything else in November that games like Mass Effect and BioShock would do much better to come out way before then. Originally, I was hearing that Mass Effect was a June release, then I heard it got pushed back. I was hearing that Bioshock was a late August release, but I've heard it also got pushed back. Anybody heard the latest on these two games? If they end up coming out in early September, I'm not sure I'm going to be buying either one then, because what would happen, is that I would end up playing them for about 3 weeks, and then Halo 3 would come out, and I probably wouldn't put them back into my Xbox until sometime in January. (not that I'll be playing Halo 3 till January, but that combined with GTA IV and a few PS3 games, and some other 360 games...you know how it is...)

Even a late August release might not be worth it for me. To only play them for a month before Halo 3, it's not like I'll finish them in a month. I guess the best bet would be to buy them sometime in January, when I can probably get one used on Craigslist for a good price. The thing that sucks, is that if either of these games came out in June or July, it would be absolutely perfect and ideal. I would have plenty of time to play them for many weeks prior to Halo 3. But late August or early September, just doesn't give them enough time for me to digest them prior to the 25th. I'll just have to rent them. You would think that Microsoft would know that this would be a situation that alot of gamers will be in. On the one hand, I'm sure they don't want to rush either developer, but on the other hand, timing is everything.

i was just discussing this exact point in the "Release Dates" thread.

i agree with you completely, and i hope to see one of them in june, if not july, most likely bioshock, i just have a feeling that mass effect wont be ready yet :(

but we should have Two Worlds for sure! (i hope!)

I thought I read that Bioshock was an August release.

I'll be buying them regardless when they come out. If Mass Effect comes out the same day as Halo 3, I'll get Mass Effect.

Bioshock has been confirmed (http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/01/bioshock-slips-past-june-dated-august-21/) for August 21, but no firm date yet for Mass Effect. With Halo 3 in September and GTAIV in October, I am betting we will see Mass Effect in November.

All I need for my 360 in 2007 to make me happy is Mass Effect, Blue Dragon, and maybe Two Worlds (probably will get that for PC though).

i said the same thing about oblivion, and i actually prefer it on 360... i'm still thinking i might rather have two worlds on PC, but for some reason i think i'll like it more on 360.

August 21st? Man, that's too bad. I'm not buying a game for $65, only to play it for 3 1/2 weeks before putting it up on a shelf for 90 days.

What if you enjoy Bioshock more?

Buy it from Liongames. It only cost $39. I already pre-ordered it and Halo 3 from them. Mass Effect is the same price as well.

What if I enjoy Bioshock more than Halo 3? Well, that's always possible I guess, but I guess my take with that, is that I can always revisit Bioshock in January or February, after all the hype has died down and get it used on Craigslist or Ebay for pretty cheap. With Halo 3, there is just going to be so much hype and excitement surrounding Halo 3, that it will be hard for me to not get swept up in it.

I've got the Beta right now, and the graphics are somewhat dissapointing, but I'll bet dollars to donuts that the graphics of the single player campaign blow me out of the water. I know when I first see a screenshot of Halo 3 single player, I will be totally blown away. I'm not really a mutiplayer guy, so it's the single player I'm more excited about. I'm also very interested in Bioshock, but when Halo 3 comes out on the 25th, I just can't see myself not getting all caught up in the hysteria over it. And of course, what will happen is that if I already have Bioshock or Mass Effect or whatever, those games will hardly get played for a few months, and then I will return to them once all the Xmas season hype dies down in January and February, but until then, those games will likely just sit in their boxes unplayed.

I'm a cheap bastard, so I'd rather wait and buy them used in Jan or Feb off Craigslist for like $35.

You should read some of the reviews for the game on the PC. Its been out awhile in Germany I believe. Its not too pretty, but hopefully it'll be less buggy, etc when it gets released on the 360.

Has anyone seen the latest video montage of Bioschock on IGN. I think you can only watch the high rez if you are an insider, but I am sure you can find a high rez version somewhere else.

It looks even cooler than the stuff I had already seen. It includes about 7 minutes of actual gameplay and it's all spectacular. The gameplay is very intriuging. The graphics are mind blowing, but I think I will be turning the brightness settings up a bit.

Preordered this one from lionsgames for my 360 because I can't afford to upgrade my PC. I am pretty sure it will not dissapoint!

Thanks for mentioning this site. They have excellent prices!
Anyone have any experience with ordering from them?

I preordered Bioshock, Mass Effect, and Halo 3 for $39.99 each. I'll let you know how it turns out. The owner has been on this forum before defending his business from doubter. Not unhappy customers mind you, but just people who refused to believe the prices don't come with a catch.

Since Bioshock is single player, it might actually be a great game to get a month before Halo 3. Its games like Gears and Halo 3 with a huge multi-player that really take away the time playing other great single player games. Halo 3 though, Im hoping, being a great multi-player AND single player, will occupy the majority of my time for the next year. I might squeeze in some new Tiger Woods with their facial recognition system coming, but other than that, me wants some Halo.
