Go to {Display setting} and enable a new setting called (RGB full range) (hdmi) to Full... Also their is a new (super-white) (HDMI) setting turn that ON also.

My review on this wonderful new settings.

After turning my RGB to full I was blown away on how much more PQ/contrast I got out of my LCD TV set. After some tv calibration, I turned off all the lights in my living room and let the magic begin, started two different titles 1st was SD DVD Training Day, amazing jump in pq, #2 titles BD dvd The Departed... Not only did my blacks get absolute black on both titles but the contract improved greatly with out crushing. I have been up all night playing around with my ps3 testing out different settings I have to say by far this upscaling update makes the ps3 worth ever cent and it will go down in history for setting a standard for home media devices. Best upscaling on the market this whole system is ahead of its time the market hasnt even caught up yet. If i was sony I wouldnt be doing any price drops until next year the system is worth the price. I find it really hard for anyone to find fault with the ps3 now. Yeah yeah yeah but what about games, Their are games for the ps3 so enough of that non-sence. This system at this point in time is by fair the best media player ever created. Blackest I have ever seen a LCD get its just amazing, truley black no more grey.

Upscaling 1080p on ps1/ps2 games is wicked. I poped in GOD of War 2, Shadows of colossus, Kingdom hearts2, RE4 and went Old school with some chronos cross, I coudlnt find a jaggy if I tried. The games where smooth as a babyies bottom. It made me wish I could have played them orginally like that. I didnt think sony could do it but dayum they shut me up. This update makes me want to hunt down all those ps2 games I might have missed or maybe not have finished and start all over again. This update will hold me until the block buster games come out.

After this update i can shamefully apologize for ever saying anything negative about the ps3 ,sony Hats off to you. I will not ever bash one of your products ever again.

It truly is a great day in PS3 land. It's going to be a long day at work.

At about midnight last night I started the download but forgot about it, so I'm sure it's sitting waiting to update. I wish now I'd have installed it and taken a look around before bed. Since I'm limited to RGB input on my TV, I have high hopes for the full range HDMI setting. Excellent job Sony! Can't wait to get home now; it's gonna be a long day.

I saw the RGB full and wondered why it wasn't set to full. Didn't realize it was new. I also set white to on.

I started downloading the update this morning, but had to go to work.

My question regarding this "full RGB" setting is whether or not it's an artificial adjustment. My PS3 looks FANTASTIC as it is, pre-update. The blacks and whites look very deep and rich on my Panny plasma. So I am not sure if I should mess with these settings when I get home.

I guess I want to make sure I'm not actually losing detail by turning full RGB on.

My display crushes blacks in games and the XMB with Full RGB... movies are all fine and BTB/WTW is present. I never used to have any issues previously like you, so I would be interested in seeing your experiences.

I can adjust the brightness to compensate for the crushed blacks, but then I have two settings... one for games, and another for movies.

no its not an artifical enhancement, it is an extended color range that the PS3 is capable of producing. Blueray movies looked incredible to begin with, now they look hypnotizing.

I agree with the OP about upscaled PS2 games, Im enojying the first Killzone right now and know that if they achieved graphics like that on the PS2, the new one will blow people away.

This pretty much = game set and match for the PS3.

My DVDs look awesome upscalled also.

After seeing drakes forture, and warhawk (even the beta) the PS3 is going to rule.

My PS3 won't allow RGB Full to work with PS2 games, for some reason. It always reverts back to "limited".

I'm surprised this is working so well for so many people. I was under the impression that this was only going to have a profound effect for people with TVs that had support for HDMI 1.3 and the bigger color gamut (x.v.Color or "deep color" I believe Sony was marketing it as).

I doubt it has anything to do with HDMI as I am using a DVI display and it works beautifully. You can actually see real skin tone and all it's variations (blotchy skin) with this on.

DVI is almost the same thing as HDMI but without audio and a couple other features...

Looks fishy to me, I wouldn't click the link.

Besides, there are several DVD/Bluray calibration discs that are highly recommended by people at this site. I don't think a simple online link can do the job.

You're beeing paranoid. I clicked the link, entered my credit card number, my adress and where I keep an extra key... the black level on my TV is very deep now :p (please people detect the sarcasm and don't trust the link!)

Also, I don't remember which game but one that I played lately had a calibrating tool in it. Just can't remember which game... sorry

How old are you, 10?
The link contain video which is the same as you use on your DVD. Yes, link click will not adjust your TV, you have to use video, ps3, TV and your head.

A relatively new poster rezzing a thread that hasn't been around in over two years to put up a download link is fishy IMHO. If it is legit then you have nothing to worry about since people can make their own decisions about clicking it.
