I just bought an Elite and hooked it up to my TV via HDMI. I have an HP Pavilion MD5880 television. The Elite worked fine but when I went to watch tv (i.e. switched the active input to the other HDMI input) I just got static - no cable tv. I had to turn my tv on and off a few times before the cable came back. Anyone know what's going on? Thanks.

Sounds like typical HDMI handshake issues that seem to happen with a range of products nowdays.

Exactly. Make sure your TV is turned on and set to the proper input before turning on your cable box, this will generally solve the handshake problems.

I have a DVR so the cable box is always on. Any suggestions? Thanks.

With my cable (TWC NY), these things happen. Sometimes after you switch inputs, the TV doesn't even recognize another HDMI immediately. Probably would've made more sense to toggle the DVR on/off.

Don't be so quick to blame the xbox, man! Doesn't seem to have anything to do with it!

Agreed, the cable boxes available in my area are all DVI or Component, and the support over DVI is pure garbage when using a DVI->HDMI cable. I leave it hooked up via Component.

I'm starting to think that the 360 is just for some TV's, regardless of the input. Since I've hooked up my 360 using Composite and also S-Video, my already bad TV has deteriorated more. It's especially bad right after I turn the 360 off and start watching.

What the hell did Microsoft do with this thing?

ummm, I think you guys are nuts :) the 360 is not going to "hurt" or "damage" a tv any more then any other device you plug into it.

My TV prefers to handshake in the dark. I turn on my HDMI dvd player first, wait a bit for it to boot-up the disc, and then switch inputs or turn the TV on.

that's just your tv, the xbox can't "hurt" a tv through comp/svideo

I never would've thought this, until I plugged in my 360 and my TV got worse immediately after. Sure, my TV is junk, but why did it get it terribly worse after the 360 was plugged in? Also, why is it REALLY bad for a while after I finish playing? Why is it fine after I play my regular XBOX? Why didn't any of this happen with my regular XBOX sometime in the past?

I've never been one to believe that a device can do that, but it's hard to experience what I described and not consider it.

That is funny. I have a very nice TV connected to my Elite, and it only gets better when I turn on the 360 :)
