View Full Version : Where is Lost on Blu-Ray?
ibglowin 05-24-07, 10:07 AM Heroes has already been slated for release in late August on HD-DVD. Since Lost is produced by ABC/Buena Vista/Disney this has got to be BD.
Anyone heard any thing on a release date for any of the 1st 3 seasons?
This would be an instant preorder for me and many other fellow Lost fans!
SpartanJohnson 05-24-07, 10:12 AM Lost season 3 and Desperate Housewives season 3 have been already announced for DVD, you can see the cover art on www.tvshowsondvd.com
It's probably not going to get a Blu-ray release, yet. I'd rather have season 3 only, because I already own the first 2 seasons on dvd.

Multiseason sets would suck, just due to the pricing.
Anyone else watch the finale last night? ;)
SpartanJohnson 05-24-07, 10:18 AM I know I did. Great season finale.
Adam_ME 05-24-07, 10:20 AM I can't believe Buena Vista wouldn't release Season 3 day-and-date on Blu-ray.

I saw it. I liked it, but instead of answering any major questions, they just introduced about a dozen new ones. They've got 48 episodes left in the series(assuming ratings don't sink even lower), so they better get cracking on explaining what the hell is going on.
SpartanJohnson 05-24-07, 10:29 AM Who knows, maybe they will announce it later? But what TV shows has Buena Vista released on Blu-ray? Maybe they aren't ready for that yet.

48 episodes is a long time to give answers. That's like 33.6 hours (assuming each episode is 42 minutes without commercials).
The ratings are forcing the writers to give more answers, but they won't be gradually giving the ultimate answer. They have to write it so that they can give the viewers the ultimate answer in the very last episode. They are going to have to show an "ah ha" moment within the last 5 to 10 minutes of this series. That's going to be difficult for the writers and it may end up being somewhat anticlimactic. Let's hope not. So far, they have done a pretty good job of keeping it very entertaining and rolling out the story without giving away the ultimate answer and putting a definite end date to the series may help the writers have a beginning, middle and specific end.
SpartanJohnson 05-24-07, 11:39 AM They said it would be over by 2010.
ckenisell 05-24-07, 12:56 PM They said it would be over by 2010.
Yes. That's correct. It would actually be the 2009-2010 season. So, it looks like we have the 2007-2008 season, the 2008-2009 season and then the 2009-2010 season. So, we're half way there. 6 seasons total with 3 out of the way.

Last night I told my girlfriend while we were watching it.... "Wouldn't it be funny if they ended the thing tonight after making all that hype about 3 more seasons?"
;)
The ending was a shocker, but the ultimate wtf moment of the entire series is still Season 2 episode 1.
ckenisell 05-24-07, 01:03 PM Remind me again what happened then.
carnivale880 05-24-07, 01:06 PM season 3 needs to be day and date and it would be great to get the first two out as well...there are so many people waiting for this on bd...and with only 3 seasons left now they need to be promoting dvds and bds to get everyone caught up and bring new fans in for the final three seasons.
Remind me again what happened then.
Season 2-E1
John blows the hatch at the end of Season 1. The beginning of Season 2 shows a guy going about his daily habbits in the morning in an older look apartment, only to hear a loud noise. It pans out and turns into that being that a 'civilized' oasis in the middle of the island.
Combine that with the fact we see Desmond again. I've never been more stunned at a TV series than I was watching the first bit of that episode.
ckenisell 05-24-07, 01:12 PM Was that the episode that starts out with the book club?
Adam_ME 05-24-07, 01:15 PM Was that the episode that starts out with the book club?
That's the Season 3 premiere. The Season 2 premiere is the one that introduces Desmond.
Was that the episode that starts out with the book club?
As said above, that was S3.
Kinda dissapointing on that one.
Season 3 as a whole was pretty good, but there's so many questions floating around that I'm beginning to lose track of whats answered and what isn't.
This show reminds me of a game I used to play on the computer. 3 colored balls are dropped onto a grid. The goal is to line them up in groups of 5 or more. Only problem is you move one, you get stuck with 3 more appearing on the screen. So the screen will inevitably get filled, and you lose.
Reminds me of this show all too much. Get 1 answer, get 3 more questions.
On a side note, at least we know the show won't have a happy ending for Kate and Jack lol....
I remember way back when they were going to release Lost on Blu-ray, for about $99.95 for a season; I guess it was just a preliminary plan though since it hasn't happened yet.
I will gladly buy Season 3 on BD. Seeing as Heroes is coming out on HD DVD this fall, I would bet that they move forward with getting Lost out.
Fantastic Season ender last night!
And we really only have 2 (24ep) seasons left spread across 3 (16ep) seasons.
ckenisell 05-24-07, 02:11 PM And we really only have 2 (24ep) seasons left spread across 3 (16ep) seasons.
Are you sure? Has this been confirmed?
EDIT: Actually, that makes sense. 3 seasons (like I posted above) with 16 episodes each season. However, I wouldn't call them 2 seasons. They will likely be called three different seasons by the network.
carnivale880 05-24-07, 02:17 PM yeah way back in october there was buzz about an impending season 1 on blu ray announcement but it never happened. hopefully they are getting it in gear. i can't imagine they would not go day and date with at least the 3rd season.
Actually there is no 2007-2008 season, as the episodes for season 4 won't air until next year in january/febuary.

Hmmmm....I didnt' know that. It looks like it is going to take some time before we find out where John Locke walked off to.
What do you mean, he was with Jack and the group when season 3 ended.

The REAL question I want answered is this.....
The Flashbacks were actually present footage. The Island shots were now flashbacks. Since Jack's dad died PRE-Season 1. Why did Jack make mention of his dad being alive, Post-Rescue?
"You bring my dad down here, and if I'm drunker than he is, you can fire me!"
Jiffylush 05-24-07, 02:43 PM use spoiler tags please
I really enjoyed the finale
Tons of action and violence are never a bad thing, btw, whose boat is it? And if it isn't Penny's then how did they contact her?
I did have one problem, as far as jumping the shark...
Jacob, is the shark, and they jumped him ;)

Alternate, ie heroes maybe?
When he said that I was thinking it was past, maybe it was past and future, and he just grows the beard in the past and future ;)
ckenisell 05-24-07, 03:57 PM What do you mean, he was with Jack and the group when season 3 ended.
If I remember correctly, he walked off behind the radio tower after he held Jack at gun point and he didn't back down.

Yes confirmed. They are calling it 3 seasons, but we all know they ordered 2 seasons worth of episodes and just split it into 3. At least they know their endpoint so the next 3 years should be very interesting. :D

You just blew my mind, I never noticed that while watching it. I really want to watch the last episode again on my PVR, but I would rather watch it on Bluray. This is the title that would make me go neutral in a heartbeat.

i've been saying the real shocker will be when the news report comes on shortly before the series is supposed to end (and they would've had to tie everything together): "this just in.... we are getting reports that the writers of Lost have disappeared, making off with $10 million of ABC's cash.... it is thought that they have fled the country....".
Discussion of the show's storyline is best kept in the HDTV Programming forum, where there's a very active Lost thread. Let's try to keep this thread to details of a potential Blu-ray release.

Hey, guess what? There might eventually be a Blu-Ray release. Nuff said. Thread can be closed now.
Come on. Just let us talk about the story-line. It's not a big deal.
mdc3000 05-25-07, 10:17 PM Disney better get their **** together and give us Lost season 3 on bd day and date...I am dying to rewatch the entire season, but I won't buy sd anymore. I want lost in high def damnit! I just hope they don't think they have to start at season 1...put the first two out as well, but make sure we get the new releases day and date BV - PLEASE!

Someone would die....
plain and simple.... there would be people hunting them down....

I agree, but I wouldn't mind whatever way they decide to release it. I only have the first season on DVD, and I'd like to start over and get them all in HD.
IMO Lost went downhill after the first season. That said, Lost is one show that looks superb in HD and would make for an ideal BD demo release.
Question though, would it be in 720p (as it's broadcast) or 1080p? ;)
tbolt30 05-26-07, 11:29 AM I'm really hoping it comes out on blu-ray still. Even though I do have season 1 of lost(held off on season 2 because still hoping for blu-ray release) on DVD.

There are a number of people who wait for the show to come out on DVD or Blu-ray before catching up with the episodes. They come to this thread for release information only to have you spoil the plot for them. Totally uncool.

The show is photographed on 35mm film. The studio master doesn't necessarily have to be limited to 720p just because that's how the network airs it. If the show is mastered in 1080p, the network would just downconvert it for broadcast.
lacombo 05-26-07, 01:34 PM show talk def doesnt make sense in a dvd section... even with spoiler tags.
if/when they do hopefully they touch the sound up a bit. I will also def be pausing alot of scenes (of the scenery shots) ;)

Actually, according to the executive producers on their podcast, seasons 1 and 2 were on film, but season 3 was filmed with Sony digital HD cameras (presumably in 1080p). They also said that they would consider going back to film for season 4, but never said what the final decision was.

Do you have a link to that specific podcast? Thanks.
ckenisell 05-27-07, 02:06 PM I think season 3 looks the best so far. I hope they don't go back to film.
ibglowin 05-31-07, 09:39 AM Lost Season 3 will be released on December 11 on both Blu-Ray and DVD day and date!

Gotta love it, I was hoping for an earlier one but i will take it for sure.
Now where is Season 1 & 2 please!

Doubtful. They probably missed the second memo. I'll wait for something concrete directly from BV before I get my hopes up again.
ckenisell 06-18-07, 10:58 AM Yeah. Since Disney Home Entertainment actually came out and specifically said it won't be coming out, I wouldn't expect to see it any time soon.
mpalmieri1203 06-18-07, 11:19 AM That stinks that it won't be coming out. Especially since this fantastic third season. Season 2 does look incredible though for and SD DVD.
dildatonr 06-18-07, 12:22 PM I'm burning an effigy of mickey mouse everyday until this is released.
RELEASE NOW DAMN YOU
SirDrexl 06-18-07, 03:43 PM I think it's possible they just weren't ready to announce it yet.
dildatonr 06-18-07, 05:25 PM I hope so.
TheCuze 06-18-07, 10:45 PM Disney also denied Badder Santa in that same press release, but that BD is clearly on the Amazon website, WITH artwork. I think they just weren't ready to announce it until they are absolutely sure what they're doing with it and how they're going to approach their first box-set. Also, maybe they're unsure of the potential release date? Maybe they want some BD-J on those discs.
carnivale880 06-18-07, 11:37 PM I tend to agree with theCuze...if this is going to be a 7 disc 50gb blu-ray set than planning for that alone is a huge task...I believe that it will be released but perhaps after the holidays when the other blu-ray studios are taking a break from putting out all the shopping season content and Disney will have a bit more room at the replication plants...It seems pretty obvious to everyone that this is just as big an exclusive to blu-ray title as any out there and Disney has to know that but to get out the amount of sets with those type of specs for the holidays may not be in the production capacity yet...alas i wait with baited breath!!
BassTek 06-18-07, 11:49 PM If that release date is true it will be an early Christmas present for me!
dildatonr 06-19-07, 12:22 PM This title alone will get no less than 12 of my friends and 5 of my coworkers to buy a BR player.
Magic(tm) 06-26-07, 11:16 AM Yeah and I just watch season 2 on DVD on my Sammy 1200. Lost looks great already on DVD but its just not the same. also the earlier they release the more it will go down in price.
GIVE US LOST!
sanderdvd 07-18-07, 09:59 AM any updates on lost on BR news?
RDarrylR 07-18-07, 10:06 AM Since I didn't get interested in lost until near the end of season 2 I didn't watch it any more. I figured I would wait to watch on DVD but maybe it will be on Blu-Ray before I get around to getting it on DVD?
stupidassdrummer 07-19-07, 09:45 AM Thanx to all who used the spoiler tags and didnt ruin it for us that have only watched the first seasons on dvd. I just got my season 2 discs from netflix today. Plan on watching them soon! great show. I watched all the first season on my ps3 and regular xbox360(nohd add on). I noticed such a major difference with the upconversion from the ps3 vs. the 360. All I can say is wow the ps3 has some good upscalers in it. Great colors
