Im on Silver membership and woke up to seeing Dirt available for dl. I tried to dl it. And it worked! I thought new demos are only for Gold members?!?!

select new demos are only for gold members. Dirt is a low profile game so I'd imagine they wanted everyone to try especially with forza 2 next week.

I was surprised (and happy) that the Forza 2 demo was available to everyone on day 1. That's a high profile game.

Maybe it's just cause I'm one of the few people here with a silver account, but it really bugs me that they do this with demos. I mean, it's just a demo! The object is to make everyone buy the game, so it should be available to everyone immediately.

No it's simply a means of making the gold members feel more special. Otehr than online play a gold member ship doesn't offer much else(though it's still a good(and consistant) value for online play).

I'd say MS pissed off enough people this week as it is. So offereing Dirt to everyone was a way to calm the waters so to speak.

Yeah, you're probably right. That said, I don't know anyone with a gold account that doesn't feel it's a good value for just the gameplay. The only reason I have a silver account is because I only have time to game about one weekend a month, and I can't justify the price for that.
