View Full Version : PS3 ethernet stopped working 1.8
akbungle 05-24-07, 10:01 PM I downloaded the new 1.8 and everything was great, I even got files streaming from WMP11 but after streaming for awhile my streams stopped showing up. So I went to the PSN store and it seemed to work until I tried downloading video the (start ok" button came up but in the wrong place and so I would press the start button and nothing would happen. So I exited from there then tried to go back in and it said Ethernet cable disconnected. Then I tried searching for the WMP11 again and then the whole PS3 froze up on me. So I used the hard off switch and then did some troubleshooting with my router and such(everything fine on that end).
After a bout five minutes I turned my PS3 back on and It found my shared media so I went to the PSN store to DL uncharted and it started the download just like normal but two minutes later poof it stops working again!
Do you think that when streaming it is overheating the PS3?
Am I screwed? :(
Soycrema 05-25-07, 12:51 AM I'm experiencing the same thing, PS3 wont connect to the internet anymore after 1.8, freezes everytime I try to check network settings and it even kills the internet connection to my pc, whats going on? :|
phtnhappy 05-25-07, 12:55 AM Did you have any unusual problems with the download, itself?
Soycrema 05-25-07, 08:31 AM No problems with the download, everything work fine for about 3 hours, I was able to connect to my home network and stream pictures and music, then all of a sudden got a message that said I was disconnected from the network, could not find it anymore and now it just wont connect at all
akbungle 05-25-07, 08:34 AM my 1.8 download went fine. I was talking to wife telling her how much the PS3 rocks then bam it stopped working.
Anyone else having this issue?
akbungle 05-25-07, 08:35 AM yeah same here worked for several hours then stopped.
And I forgot to mention, I now get 3 short beeps while shutting down. I don't think they were there before but not sure.
Maethros 05-25-07, 08:44 AM I had a similar problem last night when I was playing with the media server. Every two minutes the PS3 would lose network connection and then relogin. Not sure if this was a factor, but when I ran the network test, the PS3 said that UPnP was not available. I checked my router (DLink DI-624+) and all my PCs and they said UPnP was working fine. Had to go to bed, so I really didn't have a chance to dig deeper.
Prior to update 1.80, the network never dropped out on my PS3. I'll check again tonight after work. Maybe the PS3 was reacting to connection problems with PSN because of the high traffic load caused by everyone downloading the update and warhawk beta?
schroedk 05-25-07, 08:52 AM I saw similar complaints about this on another site (can't remember which one), the PS3 was cycling the router on and off. Some people have found success by turning the media streaming feature off. The other common theme seemed to be it was happening a lot to Linksys routers; I have a Belkin Pre-N and haven't experienced this problem, but I haven't turned the PS3 on today. Hopefully a patch will come soon, since this seems to be a rather widespread problem.

Had same problem last night, i would start fine but get kicked off only after a few minutes. I went to the main house computer and saw a warning that another computer tiring to use this wireless signal. i found out that I needed to reinstall my network connection along with my shared security (WEP) code. if you are not using any type of security try just reconneting to internet again. After the reinstall all is VERY well, this update [and 1.7] has also seemed to improve my network connection, i use to have to download in background now i can watch it DL'ing, but i do finish in background.
Soycrema 05-25-07, 09:46 AM It seems this is a problem with Linksys routers only, check this threat at the PS3 forums:

Abaddon 05-25-07, 10:40 AM Seems like it might be a problem with Linksys WRT54G routers and PS3's with Media Sharing activated, from that thread. I have a WRT54G but have not had time to try Media Sharing yet, and I have not seen any problems.
Is anyone here having problems with a different router and/or with Media Sharing not enabled?
akbungle 05-25-07, 11:01 AM mine is the Linksys WRT54G and if you turn off the media server option it works again but no sharing.
akbungle 05-25-07, 11:16 AM I just called Sony they said they would call back 24-48 hour. I stongly suggest others call so they know how widespread this is. 1-800-345-7669 option 1 then 0 think. about a four minute wait.
thezone79 05-26-07, 06:31 PM Had the samee problem where I kept getting signed off PSN and such after teh 1.8 update. I found that disabling uPnP on the Linksys WRT54G router solved the problem. I believe there is either an issue with the 1.8 firmware and uPnP or the Linksys router has uPnP issues as it rarely recognizes in Windows as a uPnP device as well.
Either way I disabled uPnP yesterday and have not been disconnected once since then.
SpeedyHTPC 05-26-07, 06:56 PM I have not had any problems with the network (hardwired to gigE). Try flipping the ps.
ShaunoftheDead9 05-26-07, 07:32 PM I've had a problem signing in also after the upgrade. I use a belkin g wireless game adapter. No problems at all until the upgrade. I used a ethernet connection from my computer to the PS3 and it signs on with no issue. I always get the dreaded DNS error when trying to connect through the adapter. Any ideas?

I have two linksys for client bridge. One has DDWRT and the other linksys firmware. after 1.8, I get kicked off the sign out even during games. THe waY i worked around was changed the order of my static DNS primary and secondary. I just switched the last three numbers for each (primary was 185, so I switched it to 186, secondary was 186, so I changed to 185.). It keeps me signed in but NOw PUnP is now not availabe.
[edit] I also noticed a slowness in overall connection rate. I disconnected media sharing from WMP11 (library>>media sharing>>disabled sharing for PS3). Now my speed is back to normal but now I do not have media sharing. I will play resistance on line again and see if things are good.
joe_six_pack 05-26-07, 10:20 PM oh crap. I think I have the same problem too.
Mine is when I'm playing online in resistance. It disconnects me, but then it logs me back in & I can connect back to the resistance server.
joe_six_pack 05-27-07, 12:53 AM ok fixed it by disabling upnp.
My computer to ps3 filesharing seems to stil work

How do you do that?
I don't see that option in the easylink advisor.
Or is that something I do in the PS3?

It's in network setttings on the ps3. Not sure what that setting is for exactly. My connection & DLNA stuff seems to still work fine.
HybridHB 05-27-07, 12:29 PM Interesting. I have a WRT54GL 1.1 and do not have this issue.
