Did we ever get confirmation on whether or not Hellboy is the theatrical cut or the director's cut? I know the european release was the director's cut, but it's never safe to make assumptions.

The runtime on the back covers posted, as well as the listings at Amazon and other retailers, show 132m, the same as the DC.

I got the Japanese release of the Hellboy BD last month and it is the extended director's cut like the European version. Seems unlikely that it would be otherwise for the U.S. release.

I have the European version and can confirm that edition is the Directors Cut.

How's the PQ on Hellboy. Is it worth a rebuy?

Yes, I also got the Euro version that's the DC cut. The PQ is so-so, but the sound RAWKS! The PCM track uses tons of bass...watch out you don't blow your sub.

PQ is so-so. :(

I might have to wait for this to go on sale.

I thought PQ was great. I really enjoyed this. I had only watched my regular DVD once back when I got it a few years ago. I'm not sure what he is comparing it to, but it is just as good as most of what's on the market.

Image quality is excellent on this release. A good 4/5 based on review standards.

Well then I might have to keep my Amazon order.
I was expecting Hellboy to look good in hi-def.

On the same note... How is the Director's Cut? Is it better than the original, or simply a case of reinserting scenes that were deleted for good reason? Does it throw off pacing or story, etc?

I wasnīt really blown away with the PQ.
Itīs good, but not great. Some scenes where a bit soft.
But itīs sure is worth the upgrade from DVD ;)

Personally i liked the DC as it doesn't place in some amazing action scene as its more character development then anything. We learn the small details that were missing early on with Bloom and his disease, and just a few moments with Liz trying to be normal. Its again nothing mind blowing but it doesn't disrupt the pace and actually helps it flow a bit smoother i thought.

Jedi,

I usually don't like these gimmicky extended versions studios are putting out more and more.

But in this case of Hellboy, it's true Director's Cut and a much better version of the film altogether.

Actually, when I first watched the movie (TC) I was disappointed and didn't really like. After revisiting it in DC, it became my favorite Hero movie.

So for me it went from regular, to really really good ;)

Daredevil is another title that improved markedly with a DC.
