I have bar rail in my basement bar design. But not sure how install. The bar rail in some of the examples on this forum are different from what I can get in the local stores. Here I post a picture that I think how I should install it on a 2 layer plywood but the bounding seems like very weak for the underlying board. Anybody has a good suggestion of how to install?

Thanks!

Not sure if it's the "correct" way, but I kicked my back in towards the bar compared to your image. I would suggest pushing that top board back a bit so that rear notch is mounted on the top board and the bottom/front notch is mounted snug on the bottom board.
Here is a pic of how mine looks from underneath

I was concerned about the board showing because the lip didn't hang down far enough, but it doesn't seem to be a problem.

TT,

you need to move the first goove up to the top. The attachment you enclosed shows that if you move the top 3/4 plywood to the left (imagine a stairstep) then the lay the rail on top of that.

Look at my bar build in my link below and you will see the side cut-away of my bar top.

Thanks Heynow and 5harkology!

Heynow, I have read your thread about your bar table build. I can't the bar rail that you have which has two parallel notches. The one that I have is exactly how is showing in the picture. The two notches are not parallel, I can't use two board to snug into the bar rail. This attached picture is what you have.

I am confused why they make these two notches not parallel.

Thanks anyway!

5harkology,

Is this what you talking about? But I feel it just tough to fix it on the board like this. How did you do it?

Thanks!

The angle on rail on in that pic was different than the first.
HeyNow^'s pic is exactly what I was trying to explain.

Check out this link: http://www.imperialdesign.on.ca/ELEMENTS/BARS/barrail.htm

Click on the detail diagram to see how to mount this type of rail. You basically need to create a wedge to mount into that 2nd notch.

Check out this link. This shows you how to put the bar rail in place. Looks like they have some high quality materials too and possibly free shipping if you're looking to order. rinoswoodworking.com/blog/bar-rails
