Hi,

I just bought my A2, and I believe it has firmware 1.3 on it. I've tried updating to firmware 1.6 via Internet, but it hasn't worked.
Anyways, I'm curious...are there some Universal combo HDDVDs that HAVE worked on A2 players with 1.3 firmware? Or have ALL Universal combo discs been shown to by disfunctional on the A2 with 1.3 fw?
Also- I've noticed that there are some Warner combo HDDVDs as well. What is the verdict on these regarding playability on the A2 with 1.3 fw?
Finally...is the trend going to be heading towards more and more releases coming out on combos, or will there continue to be a fairly good balance of straight HDDVD releases and HDDVD/ DVD combo discs?
thanks for your help,
David.

I don't have a 2nd gen Toshiba myself, but I read that changing the "Twin Format Disk" mode to DVD might help reading combo disks.

The combos worked fine when I was using 1.0.

Day and Date movies are going to be Combos from Warner and Universal. Weinstein and Paramount still don't use combos. Universal has gone away from using combos on catalog titles. You still need a solution for updates as future AACS updates and feature updates will be needed to play movies in the future. This would apply to both formats though.
