I've seen a number of posts re how loud and hot the 360s get. Mine is definitely loud but only the back gets very hot. The top and sides are not hot at all. Is that what most people are experiencing? Thanks.

It gets as warm as my PC, AVR, and such. You need airflow with mostly any electronic equipment.

It isnt just the back. The bottom of the 360 gets really hot as well. But yeah its the bottom and back that gets pretty damn hot.

Well, the bottom is a metal tray which absorbs all the heat from the CPU and GPU from underneath.

Raise the console up on some rubber feet (at least an inch).

In normal use the heat can radiate off the underlying surface and back onto the console.
