I've always understood HD DVD discs to be region free. I was considering buying some Studio Canal discs at Amazon France, though, and found several (e.g. La grande vadrouille) with the following note: "Région: Région 2 (Ce DVD ne pourra probablement pas être visualisé en dehors de l'Europe" that it will probably not play outside Europe. I suspect it's an Amazon error, but I'd like to be sure. Does anyone have experience importing French Studio Canal discs? I'd much appreciate knowing about your expereinces.

All are region free. No coding on HD-DVD at present.

It's a result of the reuse by those sites of the DVD template for the disks they sell. They simply haven't updated that part of their automated listing to reflect the fact that no region coding exists in the HD-DVD format.

On a side note:

"La Grande Vadrouille" is a french language only HDDVD (which makes it locked to the french speaking world // a kind of a region code, if you like ;) )
