Blockbuster Online for me. They have REALLY improved their service recently. The $18 a month essentially takes care of my ENTIRE TV viewing budget as it gets me three at a time, plus free in store rentals with each return envelope, and a free game rental a month.

the only online servise i ever used was Games N Flix and they sucked really. I got a free game out of it they accidently sent 2 copies of TigerWoods. I kept 1 and sent 1 back. They never asked any questions.

anyways i was looking at Blockbuster online and there really isnt a big selection.

Im in Nor California so what do you guys think would be best ?

How were you looking at Blockbuster? To see all the HD-DVDs, go to collections on the find movies screen.

Big advantage, imo, to Blockbuster is that I can get HD-DVDs online (3 at a time), then take them to the store to get 3 SDs and they kick out the next 3 HDs. If I'm being aggressive, I can be watching around 20 movies a month that way.

So if im renting with BB and get 3 HD DVD's then when im done take them to the store and get 3 SD's ? Then im done mail those back and get 3 more HD DVD's ?

That does sound good. How does the free game rental work >?

I rent from netflix, but it seems like half of the HD disks I have received have not worked. I had to wait for a replacement. The beerfest I rented possibly had the most scratches i ever seen on a disk.

I thought early adopters were more anal than joe sixpack and wouldn't scratch the disks. :D We use Netflix.

Jumbo Video here in Ottawa, Canada just announced that they now rent HD DVDs and Blu-Ray. I'm gonna check them out on my way home today. AFAIK, they're the first in Ottawa to do this.

I just signed up for a free trial through blockbuster online, just to get 1600 free ms points. I am amazed. Signed up on thursday night around midnight. Received my first three movies on Saturday. Watched two of them, fell asleep during the third, took them back to blockbuster, checked out three more movies which are due next monday, but, my next three movies from online will ship out this tuesday, so, most likely I will have them by Wednesday or thursday, so I could have six movies out at once. If you were a movie watching fiend you could go through 40+ movies a month plus a free game rental. 18 bucks for that is not bad, especially if you just use it to preview the movie to make sure its really something you want to spend 20+ more for. I know I probably spend 50+ a month on movies that after I watch the first time I think to myself, wow, am I really going to want to watch this again?

this should keep me entertained until next tv season. I might cancel my cable and just use this for about 1/3 the cost for the next few months.

Does anybody have any impression about how sensitive HD DVDs are compared to DVDs? I know they're more sensitive, but I wonder if it is a huge difference.

I use Netflix and haven't had much trouble. There have been a couple discs I had to clean, out of about 50!

only HD's I own are king-kong (bundled with the 360) and planet earth is the only one I've spent money on.

Blockbuster seems like the best deal. They have the entire HD catalogue from what I can tell. They ahve about 200, I'm about to bump up to the next level and see if I can get a 2 HD-DVD cycle going. 1 just isn't covering it. I don't even get anything at the store. I could care less about SD dvd's..... and I've already bought a HD-DVD I don't want.... If I find one I like, I'll buy it after viewing it with Blockbuster.

Also, watch out for the discs... the Fearless I got was dirty and had playback problems one time out of 3 that I watched it.

BB Online for me. I like being able to return at the store and pick up more DVDs. Really helps on the weekends, getting movies for the kids/family or just something else I want to see. Turn-around time is very good for me - about the same as when I was on Netflix for a year.

Netflix for me.

Only problem I've had is Scorpion King had delaminated into two dif. discs (it didn't play of course)

I just wash all of the others with dawn dish soap and everything else plays fine, scratched or not.

Just reactivated my Netflix account again. After a few months of BBO I got so tired of their super slow service shipping/releasing of high def titles. Several titles are not even available despite being released for are few weeks already, e.g. Eragon, Battle of the Bulge.

Click Here for the link (http://www.xbox360achiever.com/promo.php)

I'm not sure if this is the exact one I signed up for...it's through the same place but the blockbuster promo may be slightly different, you'll have to check.

try promo code 1958ta at blockbuster for an even better deal...but for the ms points be sure to sign up through that site.

You don't mail anything. You bring the mailers into BB and they send them back. You get a free new release DVD for every mailer you bring in to BB. Then BB online will mail out new HD DVDs immediately (before they have received the previous ones). They send you e-mails telling you what they have sent and when they have received the ones you returned. You get a free rental coupon monthly that can be used for movies or games (games is the better option as they are $7.99 each now). The coupon can be accessed via your account online and then printed out to be brought in to the store. Hope this clears it up for you. It's a great program.

We got "Charlie & The Chocolate Factory" from netflix over the weekend, and it's the first HD DVD that will not play all the way thru. How do these discs get *so* scratched?

I also have rented about 40 disks (A-1 with 2.0 FW). Clean all before watching and have not had any recent problems. I did have problems with the combo's, but VERY careful washing solved those problems as well.

I have not had anything other than a small blip in the last 10 or so.

Netflix is usually 1 to 2 day delivery. Most new releases I get on the first Tuesday they are out.

Someone want to give a quick how-to on cleaning discs. Looks as if in the manual you clean them differently than you do CD's. I see some people boiling their discs. I had Fearless last weekend and it didn't play 1 time out of 3. I noticed it had a haze that I couldn't get off with my usual cleaning routine.

Can't blame a company for scratched disks. Customers are doing that.

I've used Netflix for years now... But i Must say... over the past year or so The people that are renting these discs completely have no damn sense in how to keep these things clean...

How the hell do you scratch the hell outta the disc? Do these people give the discs to there kids and just leave them all over the floor and kick'em around. I just can't see how someone can scratch a disc so much.

anyone have an idea on how this is happening?

Netflix for rentals. It helps that we have a PO Box in the same post office that our Netflix rentals are returned. The local Blockbuster does not currently carry any HD movies.

Love my Netflix! I used to have Blockbuster but they were to slow at getting movies to me. And I had horrible customer service with them when I tried to call to find out why my movies took so long.

Also Blockbuster doesn't have the selection like Netflix does. It's a much bigger library to choose from with Netflix.

I just signed up for BB over the weekend. Chose it over Netflix just for the fact that I get the game rental. Took 2 days for my movies to get here, but they are pretty scratched. Haven't tried playing them yet (You would think early adapters would take better care of things).

I really only have two complaints:
1) Blu-Ray and HD DVD are under "collections"....nothing like hiding them.
2) Unlike Netflix, I can only add movies to my queue that are on disc or in theaters. I can go to Netflix and type in "Tranformers" or "Daywatch" and find those movies that aren't in theaters yet. However, BB apparently does add movies once they are actually in theaters (like Shrek the Third, Spiderman 3, etc) but not upcoming movies.

I also have found no way to add a non-released movie (like Spiderman 3) but specify that I want the HD version if available. There's only one....so I added it to my queue as a "reminder" but will need to remember to go back in and switch it to the HD disc once it's available.

I currently use BB (2nd week of 1 month trial), but I will most likely be cancelling and going to try Netflix out.

BB has horrible queue priority support, as titles that are marked as "Available" are routinely skipped over. They do this because they only ship from your "home" distribution center to gurantee 1-2 day shipping.

I would be much happier with their service if they marked the items not at your "home" center as not available or giving the customer the option if they would rather wait for titles to be shipped from other distribution centers.

I'll try Netflix and if they are better at sending me titles in the order that I want, I'll keep them. Otherwise I'll go back to BB for the convinence of getting free in-store rentals (which is great for picking up Blu-Ray exclusive titles)
