View Full Version : So I was looking at people walk by HD DVD and Blu-ray today at Fry's.
UlumaProDave 05-26-07, 10:18 PM These are some things I noticed: Both formats are next to each other and have the same amount of space. When people were walking by both formats, most always they would look at Blu-ray instead of HD DVD. Some would glance at HD DVD because they are next to Blu-ray. It seems to me that people are attracted to those bright blue boxes, they just stand out. Now weather or not this leads to questions to the employees about the format is another thing. I also heard a person that had a couple of Blu-ray movies in his hands asking an employee if they had any more Matrix on Blu-ray, I laughed. Also The Complete Matrix Trilogy is $69.99 on HD DVD at Fry's, and looked like they had gone through alot of them.
Around the store they had a couple of Blu-ray displays and a good HD DVD display along with an LG dual format playing on a 71" LG Plasma.
I left the store with The 40 Year Old Virgin HD, Casino HD and the new Megadeth CD.
I was there the other week and no one was looking at either displays. But the difference was noticable at the movie stands. There were zero lookers at the BD section but at the HD DVD section a couple were deciding which 3 movies they were going to buy, 2 young men between the ages of 19-21 were also picking out movies. I picked up 'The Mummy' and Casino myself.
halfsane 05-26-07, 10:29 PM the new megadeth cd is pretty good !
Some people have way too much time on their hands... ^_^'
CounterSeal 05-26-07, 10:42 PM Instead of laughing, why didn't you kindly tell him/them that the Matrix will be on BD eventually? It could have helped him to make a decision to get into high def via Blu Ray. And perhaps people are looking at Blu Ray more, not simply because of the box color... but because of more content, as opposed to HD DVD? They're most likely looking at the covers, not the color (blue and red).

Your right, I have been divorced for 5 years, and have plenty time and money for myself. I got my 4Runner washed before I went to Fry's, left Fry's got some Carl's Jr., went home and walked the dog and then gave my kids a call to see if they were being good. I then flipped my 360 on and downloaded Beneath Still Waters in HD from Lionsgate. Wow, I still have more time on my hands, I wonder what I should do next?

They will have to start selling more for it to survive. Alot of people seem to be overlooking this.

Or better yet, tell him that it's only available on HD DVD right now and won't be available on bluray until sometime after bluray finally finalizes their specs. And while you're at it, it wouldn't hurt to tell him right now is a great time to get into HD DVD with the great promotions that are going on. ;)
jvgillow 05-26-07, 11:09 PM Our local Best Buy still has no HD-DVD display, but Circuit City has a decent one. I asked one of the more senior-looking employees in the HT section about the upcoming price discount on the HD-A20 but he either honestly did not know or was trying to redirect me to a HD-A2 or the full-priced A20. He said Toshiba would never tell their retail distributors about a future discount...

What is the release date for The Matrix on HD DVD? Ohh yeah, Warner said "HD DVD May 22nd, Blu-Ray eventually"
Other movies with the "eventually" date
Troy
Smallville: Season 5
Batman Begins
The Polar Express
V for Vendetta

Maybe they are looking at the BRs more trying to figure out why it costs twice as much but looks exactly the same. I know that's what I do
LINEARX 05-27-07, 02:21 AM I went to McDonald's today and watched people ordering a #1 or a #7. It's amazing how little attention is being payed to the level of cholesterol in each meal. You'd think after 100's of billions of burgers sold the people would eventually get it.
At the best buy here in newmarket. All they have is HD DVD players displayed. The only blu-ray player they have set up is on a 37 inch screen and at the time wasnt playing anything.
They had one HD DVD player set up with a 46 inch lcd playing tokyo drift. Then another on their main home theatre displayer playing Planet Earth. They were advertising some deal which included an LCD (40 or 46" i dont remember) reciever, speakers and an HD dvd player for $4999.

McDonalds should give out a free copy of Supersize Me with every value meal. Oh wait, it's not out on HD-DVD or BD yet, is it?

Depends on what kind of content you want.
