I ordered my HD A2 today, the store was out. It is going to be in on Tuesday, hopefully, and I can pick it up on Wednesday. I know that I will be purchasing both Batman Begins and The Chronicles of Riddick. Are there any other movies that I should consider to "pop my HD DVD cherry"? I have also heard good things about the Serenity disc, I do like the movie also. Thanks! :)

Serenity looks great. I'd also recommend Corpse Bride.

I bought Troy as my first HD-DVD when I went format neutral and got the HD-D2 from Costco a few days ago. Probably not the best choice. :o

Chronicles of Riddick if you like that type of film.

While there are better "eye candy" movies like King Kong, MI:III, Batman Begins, and the Matrix, my vote goes for Serenity.

It was my first, and the reason I knew HD-DVD was right for me. ;)

Ant Bully is a great looking disc. The film itself was okay.

I know that a lot of people have a distaste for the movie, but Hulk was a great visual treat on HD-DVD.

Do you have a Netflix or Blockbust Online account? If not, you may want to consider a free trial.

That way you can watch movies, and if you like it enough to watch over and over or use as a demonstration, you know it's worth buying.

My other suggestion, outside of what's already been recommended, is V for Vendetta.

If you're a fan, "The Thing" is great. One of my all-time favorite movies, and I noticed details in the HD-DVD I'd never seen before even after ~20 total lifetime viewings.

The Thing is a very good movie and if you've never seen it you would be in for a real treat. For incredible picture quality I would go with Riddick, Pitch Black, Hulk, King Kong, Mutiny on the Bounty, Serenity or the Matrix movies.

those work. also Planet Earth, not always quite as perfect with the image as those, but pretty awesome all the same.

Chronicles of Riddick and The Searchers. Watch these two, then go back to the store and buy a lot more (for example, Training Day and Robin Hood). Enjoy!

Happy Feet is one that I would recommend. When I want to show off HD-DVD, the scene with the elephant seals is my favorite. The rest of the movie is pretty fun, too.

Thanks for all the ideas, I know what I am doing after I get the player on Wednesday, just watching movies. And I did just realize that blockbuster had HD DVD so I emptied my Q, and loaded it with HD DVD's only :D

I bought my D2 at Costco Friday night. They had a limited selection and I was trying to not double dip with my first discs (that ruled out Batman Begins). I grabbed The Last Samurai, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Phantom of the Opera. I am headed to Best Buy now to take advantage of their promotion (hopefully I can use my Rewards coupon on top of the weekly deal. On the shopping list: Robin Hood, Corpse Bride, and the Hulk.

Chronicals of Riddick is one of the free ones you can get with the A2 though, that's why I didn't buy it yet, can't wait to get it. I got my A2 this week along with the Ultimate Matrix set, which got me Pitch Black and Serenity for free. Also picked up Dune at Fry's just in case because the player was going to get here before the other discs. It's interesting comparing HD Dune vs the Dune Extended version upconverted on my Oppo, lets you see how sharp a picture you're getting.

I add my vote for the Matrix trilogy. The first movies is amazing and the reloaded and revolutions looks absolutely breathtaking. Fantastic transfers.

I have to agree with you here. HD DVD's 'Underworld' is simply awesome. I have seen it 4 times already and have only had it for one month.
