Hello everyone! Im currently using a runco 980, im also using a IDTV line quad as my scaler. Does a wonderful job on analogue, but only has svideo in, and i think its time to upgrade my scaler, HDMI / DVI would be great RBG necassity. Anyone out there have any good recomendations? Naturally cheaper is better, but I understand more expensive = better.

Thank you!

The two I have heard the best reviews of are the lumagen HDP and DVDO VP50, there are slight advantages to each one, but they both are pretty similar. The lumagen is by far cheaper and the msrp has been dropped down to 1200 I think now and occasionally they come up for sale here used in the 800-1000 range. Both offer a wide range of input/output capabilities, digital and analog. To get analog out on the lumagen requires the bnc out board to be installed, which is another 100 bucks from the factory. These are both higher end scalers and there are several between what you have now and these. It really depends on what your budget is, though I am not familiar with the lower end ones. Also lumagen will be releasing a new scaler pretty soon, so if you wait awhile you could probably pick up a HDP used for a good deal from all the people that will upgrade. As far as the analog out requirement, you may want to look into the HDfury that is just coming out this week, it is a dvi to vga hdcp stripper that you could put in line right in front of the projector and use the digital out on any of the newer scalers and be hdcp compliant for blueray and hddvd. The HDfury is being sold in the for sale section here for only 150, which is a great deal for what it does. Oh, another scaler you may want to look into that you could probably get used for a few hundred less than an HDP is key digitals HD Leeza, since you most likely wont be doing 1080p with your projector this is another good option. Whatever the case even a small scaler upgrade for you, one with component inputs and 1080i and 720p outputs will be a huge improvement over what you have now. I am not as sure of these, but the centerstage models cs-1 and cs-2 you could pick up off ebay for 300-500 and would help with lower resolution 480i/p DVD/ cable/sat sources and get them up to 1080i and 720p, but these don't do much if anything for hd sources. Good luck
