its just that to many people are experiencing problems with them
ive had problems with matrix reloaded,hitcher,com.. i dont even have hitcher anymore i just exchanged it for another movie after the third one! i dunno how or why its happening with combos but thats seems to be the trend.

I've sort of changed my mind about combos, I like the freedom of watching them all over the house instead of just the theater. I have never had any playback issues either.

I'm not a big fan of the Combo's. There's to much potential for problems with the adhesives.

You remember the DVD18's and all the problems surrounding them? Well these Combo discs employ the same system.

I have so many dead DVD18's (Dune, Miami Vice, Magnum PI....) that I have to question if these are going down the same road.

In fact Universal had so many problems with the DVD18's in production that they went back to DVD9's.

I kinda of like combos, and I've really not had any problems. I like being able to use the disc anywhere.

If they screw up this COMBO title they may have to file bankruptcy! :eek:

I guess I will have to wait for it to hit shelves or go through Amazon.

Problem is, most consumers who only have a regular DVD player are not going to pay $30+ for the HD DVD/DVD Combo disc when they can get just the regular SD version for $14.99 or around there. If they want this little plan of theirs to work, the price of combo discs MUST be brought down, there's no way around this. Price is the ultimate decision maker here in the US(just look at how badly the PS3 is doing at $600, while the 360 and Wii are rocking the charts at $200 to $300).

As for actually doing any kind of service for us HD DVD owners, if these companies want to contribute, then make the combo disc only a FEW dollars more than a typical HD DVD release or, better yet, offer an HD DVD version AND an HD DVD/DVD combo. That way people who hate the combo discs(90% of the HD DVD owning community) don't have to be raped by the high pricing just to get the movie and those who enjoy the combo discs can buy if they CHOOSE.

I can't wait to get this movie, but I have a feeling we'll be able to do better than $32 shipped, don't you think?

300 is going to be high powered release and will demand as much money as Warner thinks they can get, no matter the format. I'd just wait and see what Fry's.com has it at. Why don't they just include separate HD DVD and DVD? I remember Shrek had a 1.33 and 16:9 version of the movie on two separate discs. (I think)

I almost forgot. The WMV HD that I have of the "Funk Brothers" has two separate discs.
One SD and the other a HD. That's the way the current HD movies should be done.

So much for the alleged "release list" someone posted a few days ago in one of the "Where is Fox?" topics suggesting 300 would be IME/HD-DVD timed exclusive, a 'la "The Matrix".

Not sure day-dates will be timed exclusives - especially after WB is trying to push TotalHD to other studios...catalog titles like Harry Potter and LoTR are another thing...

Exactly why I jumped, VERY anxious to get this one home and as I mentioned in the OP, I ordered The Road Warrior direct from Warner and got it a full week before street....funny thing though, they didn't charge me until the day prior to shipping it - they've ALREADY charged my card for 300, go figure.

To be clear, I meant "timed exclusive" in the "until profile 1.1 BD players in november" sense of the word - Warner has, of course, been quite clear that Matrix will be available on Blu-ray after 1.1 ratification.

Price, not so much. A difference of a few bucks doesn't bother me.

I just don't want the combo discs, I hate 'em. When I don't have a choice I get them (like with the Children of Men,) but they give my player fits, I don't like the look of them, and like DVD 18's I worry that in a number of years they'll become "unhinged."

I support both formats and I usually by HDDVD's, but when it's a combo I go for Blu Ray if it's available.

No delays - even doubled checked with them because I wanted to make sure my order I placed several weeks back was still ok and there would be no need to place it again considering what some other online stores are saying about the pre-order date, etc, they of course said my order was still good, no mention of a delay. =)

I had this in my cart on Friday. Now gone.

I think that it was previously announced that it's not supposed to be up for pre-order on July 3rd.

It's definitely not getting pushed back since some people have already seen the finished product.

I've already been charged for it, but just for a goof, I emailed them and mentioned there seems to be some issues with the ordering link on their site. I asked if the order I placed the day it showed up at their store was still good or would I have to re-order it due to the official pre-order date now being 7/3, etc...they got back to me within 48 hrs and specifically said my order was fine and is in process with a break down of the fee and shipping info again, said there is no delay and so on - thye didn't go out of their way to explain the buy link trouble however, but I suspect all is well, simply waiting for the 3rd.

I've only seen this up for presale at TLA.

If I was nuetral and I saved 2 bucks by buying a BD over an HD-DVD I'd do it. Every time I save 2 bucks I save 2 bucks... you'd be amazed what smart shopping over the course of a lifetime amounts to. Being that I'm not nuetral it bugs the hell out of me that I can't buy an HD-DVD at the same price as the other guys.

I've not bought many movies lately as the prices seem to be creeping UP instead of down. I bought most of my 60 or so HD-DVD's at 20 bucks or less. I refuse to pay close to 30, so for now count me out of supporting high priced media. I'll still buy GOOD movie at around $20 but I'm not buying B-titles and I'm not paying MORE for a combo, let alone near $30 for ANYTHING that I may only play once or twice. We're being GOUGED for adopting early and I for one don't appreciate it.

Well, I managed to screw my order up.

Back in late May I pre-ordered Rio Bravo, The Cowboys & Blood Diamond HD DVD but 300 on Blu-ray because the combo on the HD DVD version.

After reading about the Blue Screen PiP & other extra features on the HD DVD version I called them Monday to change my pre-order to HD DVD. The rep said she couldn't change anything, just cancel. I clearly told her No!, don't cancel anything. My order was over $60 for free shipping, and she said "OK". I figured I'd just order 300 HD DVD & eBay the BD version.

Well yesterday I checked online to see if Blood Diamond had shipped. No, still "processing", but the status for 300 had changed to "Back Order". :confused:

Checked this morning, Blood Diamond still processing, but 300 changed to "Canceled". :eek:

I called them, and the rep says my recorded showed I called & canceled 300. :mad:

I argued for 5 minutes to no avail, they can't re-instate my order for 300. So, I sure hope it comes back up for order on July 3. And with WHV it's obviously best to be really certain of what you want before you order, and don't try to change ANYTHING once you've ordered.

I just hope my Blood Diamond ships. :(

How does warnewr do exchages if these combo discs dont work. This is the only thing keeping me from ordering them online. Bother these movies will bel like 35 or 40 bucks at best buy though and thats outrageous.

i just read that if i order 300 now it wont arrive till 5 days after release. Anyone had this happen?

Not certain about how Warner handles exchanges, but why are you worried about Combos? I've not heard about any issues with combos since the most recent frimware updates went through.

Nevermind, apparantly I cant add. It says if you order a movie with less than 10 days till its release you will not receive it on release day... but there are more than 10 days till 300 comes out so I should be good. The shipping is 7.50 though so it may be worth it to just buy 300 at best buy for 35 just in case it needs returning.

Really? I have the 360 add-on myself and all of my Combos work flawlessly. You might want to look up Amir (Microsoft Insider) in the insiders thread and mention your problem to him. It's likely that he can either suggest a quick fix or make sure TD gets looked at by MS for a possible fix in a future firmware release. I already tried before posting and if I use WBWEL it adds shipping of about $7.95 for me which kills that deal. I could not combine free shipping with WBWEL.

I'm going to walk into my local Fry's on release date and easily pick it up at a good price. What is with all of this pre-order nonsense? I never knew that HD DVD had a 10 million user install base. :confused:

It was a really short lived thing that they yanked the same day it went up. They accidentally priced the HD DVD at the same price as the SD DVD. So far they haven't cancelled the orders on it.

Most of mine have shipped 8 days before release, ground shipping to the East Coast takes 7 days. Thats why I was expecting to get a shipping notice today. Hopefully its on its way.

You are in for a treat with the bourne movies. But a back to back marathon could get tedious(lots of story).

I suspect mine IS shipping today for sure...even though I earlier mentioned they charged me for it, it must've been some sort of fund checking device because the money was never officially charged - but this morning it DID hit, much they way the other Warner stuff worked, so as the case with say, The Road Warrior, the day the money vanished - the movie also shipped, doubt it'll get here by the weekend however, but soon enough, shields will deflect many swords and limbs will fly in my house. :)

nice. just ordered it from warner with the coupon. i never saw this movie when it came out, i felt kinda blahzay about it. But now reading the reviews (all of which are positive) it seems like this is one of those no-brainer purchases...

I ordered from WB, but I didn't make a full account. So all I have is my order number. Does anyone know where on WB's site I could use my order number to check the status of my order? Everywhere I look, it wants my user ID and password (which obviously don't exist).
