I'd happily take this and the original Bean movie in HD. Thanks for the heads up!

seriously, if the original in HD, I'll buy it in a heartbeat. But the X-mas special? I thought it's shot in 4:3 or is this a different movie altogether?

Mr. Beans Holiday is a recent movie that has done well at the international box office. Up to close to $177 million at last count:

This is a perfect example of why DVD has region coding. Universal does not open MR. BEAN'S HOLIDAY theatrically in the U.S. until August 24th...

Looks like HD DVD owners in the US will be able to get it on HD DVD from overseas before they can see it in theaters. Kind of like HD DVD owners in France can get Smokin' Aces on HD DVD (or download the hacked version) and it doesn't even hit theaters there and some other places until August 1st (according to boxofficemojo.com). It is one thing for a lower grade DVD to be available, but HD can compete even better with the PQ that theaters have. I wonder how theaters owners who are aware of this feel about this kind of thing.

my bad then. Because I thought it's the Xmas Special from a long time ago (pre Mr Bean the Movie)

It seems odd that HD DVD would be releasing a title in Australia when we have been told on this forum that there are no HD DVD players to be found in Australia! Is this a launch title there (like Harry Potter was in the UK) ?

Whats really funny is that it has not even been released in the theaters here in the states yet...

No, there were some twenty odd launch titles in Oz when HD DVD releases first became available. Now there are nearly sixty titles.
