I picked up a Toshiba 32HLC56 monitor last year (no tuner) for a decent price and didn't care too much about the lack of tuner until now. I've been using an old VCR for cable tuning and, of course, it's a crappy picture. Normally this would not bother me but after some idiot turned left in front of me and now has me laid up for the next 5 months, I'm actually watching TV and not just movies.

Here's what I need and what I want advice on:

Preferred: Set-Top box w/ cablecard for tuning (1.0 I know 2.0 isn't out yet, and I don't care I don't buy PPV or any other stuff anyway)

Workable: A STB w/ clear QAM tuner that someone might have tried with the Time Warner Cable system in Appleton/Green Bay Wisconsin. (I've seen the Samsung DTB-H260F listed here, but unsure of it's suitability on the cable system I have)

Side nice toy: a Single or Dual Tuner HD DVR with cable card that isn't stratospherically priced (not likely)

Best bet is to just rent a box from your cable company.

Preferred: Only ones available are the Tivo Series 3 and the discontinued Sony DVR's, gonna cost you some money for any of these options.

Workable: The Samsung should work fine if you have unencrypted QAM available, check the local HD Info section at this forum for a thread for your viewing area for better info on what works.

Side Toy: See Perferred
