In trying to set up my HT, there's one situation I don't know what I need. I have to run from an HD DVR along the baseboard and then underneath carpet for about 5 feet and then back along baseboard to an HDTV. The problem is that the HD DVR will be using the HDMI already so that leaves the component connections to provide the best picture to the HDTV in my computer room. That also means there's at least 5 wires running underneath the carpet which someone will obviously feel when walking on top of them. BTW, there also has to be a couple ethernet runs back to the main viewing area too which means even more cables. Are there any component to single cable back to component adapters or some better method you can recommend?
P.S. I'm in an apartment so can't go through walls, ceiling, etc.

The following solutions are between $75 and $150.
1. Component video & audio over single CAT5 ethernet cable:

- The distance over CAT5 can be up to 1000 feet.
2. Component video & audio over single "coax" type cable - Rapidrun technology:

Personally I've done the component video over CAT5 to feed my DVR from one room to another room 50 feet away - works great. DVR to TV in room 1 (HDMI); same DVR to TV in room 2 (component over CAT5).

Thanks for all the links and options. It certainly can get expensive depending on what you choose. I was even thinking of maybe an HDMI splitter and then running HDMI but it looks like a decent splitter is going to be at least $100. Maybe analog coax isn't bad after all. ;)

I do not know much about this product, other than the company sells several types of "flat cable"

They looked great until I saw the price. Thanks though as I just may have to bite the bullet.

It sounds like you want to run the cables across a "doorway". Have you considered using a cable or cord ramp?
Here's one that's more industrial, but I'm sure there are others that are geared towards home use.

It'll be pretty ugly, but it's not permanent and you won't have to mess with the carpet.

The doorway is right at my front door's foyer and even for the "nice looking" ramps like you see in offices, I think it would still look pretty ugly. Good thought though. I have even toyed with running the cables up the wall and around the door. LOL Aww what the heck, it's only a bachelor pad.

Is there trim around the doorway? If so, and if you're handy, you can run cables and wires underneath the trim.
It sounds like you're running the cables under the baseboard trim ... I think. It's a little bit of work, but if you're careful and take your time (and a little paint afterwards), your landlord won't even notice it. Well, unless you want the cables when you move.

I talked with one of my friends and coincidentally he has used the flat cables before, not for component, but the 3 wire type. I'll probably just end up doing that. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions.
