I'm looking to compile a list of Plasmas that will accept the new 1080P 24Hz output from the PS3. Lots of info floating around in different threads but I can't find easily find a list of TV's that it will work with.

So if you've been successful please list your Plasma model, your PS3 firmware (currently 1.8 at time of starting the thread) and the Blu-Ray disc you tested with. Thanks!

I guess I should rephrase my question. I was wondering which sets will allow the PS3 to output the new (as of firmware 1.80) setting of 1080P 24hz AND the TV runs at 1080P as well. :) I was under the impression the 7th gen Pioneer's were not 1080P. Am I wrong?

I'd like to bump this thread. I'm interested a list of Plasmas that will accept and display correctly a 24p / 24Hz / 24fps (whatever you want to call it) source. This seems to be done through 3:3 (72Hz) or 5:5 (120Hz) pull-down from the TVs I have seen that support it.

I've noticed judder on DVDs and many TV showing of movies for years. 24p capable TVs are very interesting to me. I'll be buying my first HDTV in one month and this is a feature I'm looking into. So far as I can tell from the lack of 24p talk on the Plasma forum, only the Pioneers and some Panasonics will properly display 24p. Is this true?

I'm really interested in knowing what brands/models support this feature. 720P or 1080P.

Thanks!

There was one 1 50" 1080 panel in the 7th gen lineup.

However there are several 1080 panel options in the new 8th gen pioneer lineup and the display 24hz inputs at an even multiple rate (72 hz ).

As far as I know only the latest pioneer 1080p sets (5010FD. 6010FD, and the 110 and 150 elite pro models) will take 24fps directly and put it on a high quality screen 1080p native (at a 72 hz rate). There are others coming but what they actually do will not be known until they deliver.

I should note that most observed judder in movies is not really judder. Many films are shot with cameras that judder and 24fps is not perfectly smooth (movie theaters use projection shutters at 48 or 72 fps to help fool the eye into thinking 24fps is smoother than it is.

There are quality judder free viewing material, however, I hope many more down the road. Just be ready for some disappointment.

Add to that ....Also the latest pioneer 768p sets (4280 HD 5080 HD, and the 950 and 1150 elite pro models) will also take 24fps directly and put it on quality screen 768p native (at a 72 hz rate).
Look for HD Gurus' list of HDTV sets that will actually accept & process (acurately)24 fps material.

Thank you for the quick responses everyone.

Coldcase, I agree that judder is not a huge deal and not noticable in most scenes. I found an instant test for judder to be scrolling text like the credits. You can clearly see as the credits scroll up the screen, that each "Step" or movement is not equal. And then I see this effect to a lesser degree on slow pans. I am not confusing consistent jerkiness due to low frame rate with uneven moment (judder).

We should start a list of such material. So far, I don't know of any blu-rays
that are judder free, and that includes Planet Earth. Perhaps something animated
will be. I'm looking forward to the blu-ray of Ratatouille. :)

How's the list looking so far? I have a PS3 and this issue is very interesting to me. I think it would be great to include 720p PDPs also.
