ok well ive read a few posts, but i havent been able to pick everything out yet.
im wanting to spend around $1500 including the screen if possible. i only need 720p as long as it still looks good, and the bigger the screen the better. I'll mostly be watching movies and some video games, but not so much sports.
im sure there are projectors around $1000 that are still impressive, im just not sure which one would suit me best.
any suggestions?

A bright and very very popular model of projector is the Mits HD1000u. Probably the most popular pj on this forum presently, and for good reason. It is very bright, so when screen shopping, consider a gray of sorts, which will give you increased perceived contrast and shadow detail. Mine shoots a 98" image to a silver 1.0 gain screen in low lamp mode and I'm very pleased with it.
thanks i read a little about it. but i read one post that said compared to the in76 and the hc3000u the 1000 is a somewhat distant 3rd place.
and the hd1000u can be found for about 500 bucks cheaper. you think its worth the extra money?
id spend a little more if it was absolutely worth it, but id want to spend less if possible.

Probably not. There are too many other factors involved in selecting a PJ, The Z5 is a good PJ, but is no where near as bright as the HD1000 and needs some help for screens larger than around 96". You need to do a lot more reading.
Screens and room setup are as important as selecting the PJ. If this is your first PJ (and it sounds like it is), then getting an HD1000 is a wise choice. It will allow you to get your "feet wet" in this hobby and give you a lot of experience without costing a lot.
Mitsubishi makes some good, inexpensive, PJs. They aren't the "best", but they do give you a good picture (see the HD1000 threads). I have a cheap HC3 model (LCD - my backup PJ) that doesn't have very good specs, but does give me an acceptable picture, when my regular PJ has problems.
BTW, we are not supposed to post street prices (read the forum rules), you could get this thread deleted.
so if i like the hd1000, which screen should i get? ive read enough posts, i dont really feel like learning everything about everything, i just wanted to quickly get some advice from someone that actually knows. but i didnt really look up much on screens at all, so which do you think would fit the hd1000 best.
it can handle larger screen images right?

Bro check out the screens forums, there will be oodles of posts about the HD1000u, but to quickly answer your question, yes it's one of the brightest HT projectors and can go very large (120"+).
