I've got a Denon SACD player with 1394 output. I don't have an interest in using a Denon receiver. Are there any pre-pros that can handle the high res 1394 output from the Denon player? It doesn't look like it.

Integra Research RDC-7.1. Ilink and 7.1 Balanced Preouts.

Thanks. Surprising there isn't more. Or maybe it isn't.

:) Preamps tend to be a little behind the tech curve when it comes to new connection types.

I have owned this Preamp since it was released so if you have any questions then let me know.

I would be wary of any brand mixing with regard to 1394. I recently purchased a Denon 3910 and a Pioneer Elite 49txi with the very intent on using firewire for my dvd-audio and sacd connection. Weeks of frustration and research only to find out that mixing brands will likely not allow 1394 to function. When I bought into the idea I believed that firewire was a universal digital connection like coaxial or optical digital but I was wrong. I never could get the Denon and Pioneer to communicate with each other.

Bummer. I was thinking of doing precisely what you describe.

Denon have had some issues mixing with other brands in the past, they have always been a bit half arsed with their ILink support presumably because it competes with their own Denonlink standard.

I use a Pioneer DVD over Ilink with my RDC-7.1 and it is perfectly behaved. There are 2 users that I know are/were using the Denon 3910 quite happily over Ilink with the RDC-7.1, "Gimp" and "Pepar".

i use the integra 10.5 rec and dvd connected for audio thru i-link for 2 trouble free years now.
thats why i am hoping that a high end hd dvd or blu ray will appear with i link it may be wishful
thinking.

If you have the cash then Pioneers upcoming Bluray flagship, the BDP-LX90 will apparently have Ilink. This is what I am saving up for, it has DVD-A and SACD support too. I think an LX90 and Toshiba A2 could quite happily satisfy all my 8 cm disc needs.

any info available on the bdp-lx90 yet.

Not yet, there is a small chance of info at IFA or CEDIA but I suspect we will have to wait until nearer its release.

LOL I think I've got that to come.

I want the Pioneer LX90 because it is the only player that matches my requirements, Blu, SACD, DVD-A & Ilink. I see it as a practical and sensible purchase :)

same reasons and i still like my integra 10.5 and i-link just works with no handshake
issues.

Mixing brand definitely works for the ilink of my Pioneer 74txvi and Yamaha S2500 DVD player.

There used to be an old AVS thread that listed some brand compatibilities...

Just an update on my situation, I finally got ilink to work with my Denon dvd player to the Pioneer 47txi. Turns out I needed a repair of the ilink circuit in the receiver. So now I am enjoying ilink for dvd-audio and sacd multichannel with mixed brands.

Good to hear. Brand mixing should be OK in all cases and in reality is about 95% of the time (For the other 5% usually a firmware update will fix).

Interesting... my Denon 3910 works flawlessly with my Elite 59TXi receiver for DVD, DVD-A and SACD. May be something is not working on either side?

Edit: didn't see your response. Now that you have solved the problem enjoy!

Thanks, I've been enjoying the ilink connection for months now. But I'd really like Pioneer to come up with a blue ray player that also supports ilink for the advanced audio modes of the HD disks. Then I will be in complete heaven. Krobar, any real news that this might be happening?

More likely it will be HDMI, than ilink.
