I have an old NEC Plasma that has no tuner and no HDCP
and was thinking about getting Digital Cable upgrade from analog cable.

I currently use a vcr as the tuner and use component to send video to Plasma

If could I got Digital Cable, I can get the Box to act as the tuner ? but do they have component out from Digital Cable boxes?
OR
Is there a way to get Digital cable hooked up to the Plasma via DVI?

an you add HDCP to a PLasma that didnt come with it?

Many Thanks

Component output from the cable box should do just fine whereas most cable stbs now force on HDCP and your DVI connection will not work. And you can't add HDCP compatiblilty to a display if it doesn't have it. For more info on your particular cable stb visit the HDTV Hardware forum.

larryWhen using a cable provider's old CATV equipment (e.g. SA8300HD) you'll see only minor differences in performance between the STBs component and HDMI connections.

Thanks guys - I dont have digi-cable yet , just thinking about it. Sounds like Component will be way I have to go when I get it.

I guess I could ask charter what kind of box they provide. sure would be nice to find one w/o HDCP. :o

When I set this up , I guess cable box that converts the digital signal to analog?
I would think a good quality Box would do better on converting that Signal?
Anyone ever explore that before????

I use to rent Time Warner's SA8300, which IMO... rendered a better picture w/my PDP using the component connection versus HDMI... but hey, what do I know?
