View Full Version : Is it difficult to Ceiling Mount the HD70
Primetime316 06-02-07, 09:48 AM I've attempted to do a wall mount but that is only leading to me doing something in shelf form. As you know, the projector isn't flat on top so if it's placed upside down, the buttons are going to be mashed as well as the focus being thrown out of wack.
Anyone been able to have this projector upside down but not on a ceiling mount? If so, how?
So the projector is forcing me to go ceiling mount or very low on the floor and I really don't want to have the projector near the floor.
thanks
tattootearz 06-02-07, 10:18 AM You can keep the projector right side up and use the settings to Invert the Image.... you dont need to turn it upside down.
Primetime316 06-02-07, 10:27 AM But if I invert the image, it's still going to throw upwards isn't it? According to what you're saying, the picture would still be too high but just upside down.
So, you're saying that there's a way to make the picture throw downward without actually turning the projector upside down?
reconlabtech 06-02-07, 10:32 AM The wall mount at mountdirect.com hangs the PJ upside down but from a wall mount, not a ceiling mount.

I think i've seen that one but at this point, I'm starting to get frustrated with this whole deal. I'm having too much of a problem with just getting the thing set up to even try and watch it properly. I don't really want to wait another week or two to be able to even use it.
I paid quite a bit of money for his thing and I've had it like a week and eventhough I haven't messed with it much, it just seems that the setup should be a bit simplier than it's turning out to be.
So in your opinion, the inverting the screen idea presented above won't work?

Look at the pictures in the PJ menu - you have standard/front, standard/rear, ceiling/front, and ceiling/rear. The ceiling mode just tells it to flip the picture 180 degrees, it doesn't change the offset from plus to minus.
I have seen some people use a shelf near the ceiling but they buy the proper screws about an inch long and put the screw down through the shelf in order to mount the PJ upside down on the bottom of the shelf.
I hear you about the money and time. I bought a ceiling mount, 2 35 foot cables, replaced my speakers, new receiver, Bravo D1 dvd player, adapters, and an HDMI switcher. Good thing my HD70 was on sale!
Don't get frustrated, it's worth it.

I hope it does turn out to be worth it.
I wonder though. I'm sure you know about the big zoom button on top of the unit. I wonder if that will fare will being placed upside down a shelf? I don't really want to go putting holes the roof of this room as the room will also be used for other things. However a shelf sitting up on the wall wouldn't throw anything off at all.
Those 35 foot cables. Were they hdmi cables? I hope not because those would have cost a pretty penny or where they component cables. Hdmi looks great, component on the unit, no so much right now. Maybe it's my settings though.
LITEGUY2004 06-03-07, 08:49 AM I have a hd 70 I have moved it 7 times. the quickest mount is a heavy duty L shaped bracket. the screws to attach the projector are m3 and should be about 1/4" longer then the thickness of your l shaped bracket. If you use this system you will need patience to get it aligned perfectly.---My suggestion is to order a mount. I bought mine for $40 including shipping and basically looks like a tripod mount. for tilting and adjusting. PS I dont use it. I could overnight it to you.
OK
My current position is on the lower level of my coffee table. It is one of those raise up top type. 52"x 32" I have the projector, receiver, satellite box, and dvd on the lower level of the coffee table. the wires run under the couch to a hole in the coffee table.-- I have a mat covering the wires between the couch and coffee table.
the projector is lense is 12 feet from the wall (no screen) the diag picture is 100"
call me if I can help

You are not going to put the PJ upside down on a shelf. You drill holes through the shelf and run 3 three quarter inch long screws through the shelf into the mounting holes on the bottom of the HD70. The HD70 will be upside down, under the shelf.
I'd rather buy the wall mount myself.
One 35 foot HDMI and one 35 foot Component cable. Cost a mint? Not hardly, Monster cables are a joke on ignorant consumers. Go to monoprice.com and buy the same quality for 1/10th the price.

Ditto, I was going to say the same exact thing before reading this post. LOL
Btw it is much easier to run all the cables at once even ones for future use I just ceiling mounted my hd70 with a $20 radioshack speaker mount and ran the cables along the ceiling edge to the opposite end of the room and hid all the wires behind some 4inch crown molding I put around the ceiling it was pretty cheap and easy...not to mention it looks good.
i29gtaylor 06-04-07, 05:47 PM I've decided to give this a shot. I ordered the cords from monoprice (thanks to the poster above), the mount from Elite Screens and the cord covers from wiremold. Should be interesting! Good luck with your install as well...
