Hi!
Does anyone know the difference between "16x9" versus "16x9 1:1" display modes. They both look different from each other (DVD images in "16x9 1:1" look slightly slimmer than 16x9) ... but I'm not sure which one to use. Basically, I need to optimize settings for the (built-in) DVD viewing.
Thanks!

16 x 9 is 1.78:1 aspect ratio and the DV10 also has a built-in 1.85:1 ratio setting. Depends on what the AR is for the DVD you are playing. 1.85 and 2.4 are the most common ARs in the US film industry.
Thanks for your response. I guess, I'm still a little unclear. If I watch .. say .. "Pirates of the Carrabean II", I see two black bands (up and down) implying that it is a 2.35:1 ratio. So the question is, which setting is better: "16x9" or "16x9 1:1" ? (The only other choices are "4x3" and "LBX").
In any case, can anybody please explain what "16x9 1:1" is? The manual says something about it being great for 1080i or PAL .. not sure if I should use it for my 480P viewing.

I can't find a manual online for the DV10 so my guess is that the 16x9 1:1 is the 1.85:1 mode. Now for 2.35 or 2.40 films, you are going to have black bars no matter what unless you use the LBX mode and then put an anamorphic lens in from of the PJ to stretch that back out to 2.35 - you can read all about this in the 2.35 Constant Height threads.
16x9 is good for HDTV and some films, mostly animations but a good number of movies are still going to be wider than even 16x9. They are more like 21x9.
