Hi guys,

Sorry if this has already been covered but I can't find any information that makes sense to me. If you know some links to the info or some good books for this stuff please post them as I don't mind doing the reading if that is what is required.

My question is regarding the primary colors in the CIE chromaticity chart. What settings in an LCD panel would affect their position in the color space(color, tint, cuts/gains)? And how dramatic is their influence(if any)? What relationship do the RGB cuts and gains have to the primary colors when setting the grey scale?

Thanks

Christopher

There is a ton of information, including links, available on this forum regarding this subject. You'll have to run a search on terms such as "color decoding", "gray scale", "display color gamut", etc.

Unless the LCD panel in quetsion has a color management system (unlikely), the primary colors are strictly a function of the backlight spectrum and the LCD panel's filters and no adjustment is possible.

Color and tint affect color decoding (i.e. how the primary colors are mixed to produce picture coloration), but do not affect the location of the primaries. Likewise, the cuts and gains strictly control the primary color mix used to create white (i.e. grayscale), but do not affect the location of the primaries. However, the position of the white-point does affect the location of the secondary colors (yellow, cyan and magenta). FYI, cuts mostly control the low (dark) end of the grayscale while gains mostly affect the high (bright) end.

Steve's post was spot on. And packed a damn lot of information in such a short post too!
