Hi im setting up a gaming room with a proyector and all my consoles, also a home theater speaker set with a receiver, the receiver has 2 hdmi s in and 1 out, the one out will go to the projector and one in will be for the ps3, my question is, will every video signal connected to the receiver be transmitted to the projector through the HDMI without any problems, will I need more cables, If I connect my cable service to the receiver will I be able to watch it on the projector? I dont know much about this, but I guess thats what the receiver is for, also, will the Ps3 hdmi serve as audio as well as video or do I need optical, does optical support 7.1?

What receiver? I have two HMDI inputs into my receiver as well, but I use component for my cable box and toslink for the audio portion. You could do the same, (combination of component and HDMI) or use a HDMI switch on the input side if you want to use only HDMI. You won't be able to tell the difference with component.

well my cable box is not HD, actually I might not even hook cable on to it and only use it for gaming, but my question is, if the HDMI out to the proyector is gonna be enough to receive every video signal in to the receiver no matter what the connection is, for example, my ps3 is gonna be hooked up to one HDMI, and my 360 to the component, my wii to the composite, will all those video signals be transmitted to the one HDMI cable out to the projector, or do I need more cables to go to the projector?

Theoretically, no, you don't assuming you'll always use HDMI. Everything I have runs through HDMI. I ran the extras, but expect I'll never use them. I did run conduit though for future changes. Did you run conduit?

Depends on the capability of the receiver. Maybe yes and maybe no.

the receiver is the onkyo HT SR800, is it capable, is it good, I think it has a great price for having 7.1 surround sound, what do you guys think?

I'm sure its fine. I agree with Big. If you change out your receiver to something without HDMI, you might be in trouble. If you're concerned about the incremental expense of running extra cables, check out monoprice.com for component. Conduit is your best option to prevent issues in the future.

Just another heads up on that particular Receiver.

To my knowledge The HD and Blueray disk players on the market today are not passing the 7.1 channel sound track other than through the HDMI cable. Only receivers with HDMI 1.3 can accept and decode that 7 channel source.

Your receiver will take the 5.1 channel information and create a 7 channel effect but it will not be the true 7 channel information on those disks.

Onkyo has released receivers that are HDMI 1.3 compatable.
