Hi all,

I'm using a Hitachi PJ-TX100 (720p), and an Oppo 971 DVD player upconverting through DVI. The picture is noisy, even on the best quality DVDs, and the colors are very pale and muted. HD cable is completely without noise, and colors are better, though not perfect. I know the Oppo is supposed to be an incredible player, so what am I doing wrong? Has anybody found good settings for this combination? Screen is a Dalite Model B, 106" high contrast white. I tend to watch with some ambient light.

In all likelihood, you need to toggle your Hitachi's DVI setting between computer mode and DVD mode. The noise may be the result of the black levels being raised by 7.5 IRE because of this setting.

Thanks for the reply. Black levels are much better in computer mode, but noise is unchanged.
