Any thoughts? I can purchase the XV-Z3K from a local place here - though it has 300 hours on the bulb with an extended 4yr warranty that covers the first bulb replacement for around $250 less than a certain warehouse type store carries the 12K for....
What would you do?
I have "heard" the XV-Z3000 at its 33db - it doesn't bother me at all. It is no louder than an A/C vent in the room.... it is also what the 12K is rated at....
Thoughts?

Interesting - is there a circumstance that would change your opinions? $500 less? $1000 less?
Just wondering - before pulling the trigger.

Know your PJs.
The two big differences between the two: The 12k is long throw vs the 3000, short throw. Better optics in the 12k. Size and weight if you want another.
If short throw fits your setup, the DT-500 is your best bet. (a z-3000 less a second iris). Some here have purchased theirs for under $1k. (nine franklins for me-new on the bay).
All three, BTW, throw an excellent image.

Maybe I'm wrong for doing this, but for me, I'm comparing the 12K with the market it was released for, not the market it ended up in.
Higher price doesn't necessarily mean higher quality, but a projector marketed as a high-end 10K machine should be a bit better than projectors marketed for the sub 3k market.
I'm also gambling that a projector marketed as a high-end 10K machine will have better long-term reliability than a sub 3k projector.
I'm not familiar with the z3000, but I do have about 11 hours on the sharp 12K over the past 4 days and I'm extremely impressed with what I've seen thus far.
We install and calibrate both and see a LOT of PJs, the 12K tops anything PQ under $5k, including the 1080P PJs. This is the rare occasion you get champagne on a beer budget. If it meets the criteria for your installation buy it, you won't be sorry.
